There is a very thin borderline between a serious movie and a boring depressing movie. For a while, this movie was treading on that border but the first hour of the movie and the second hour elevated the movie's status.
We initially get a glimpse of what actually happened to Jesicca Lall, the crime doers and the witnesses. The movie then shifts focus to Vidya and her efforts to convince Police and witnesses to help her convict the killer.
We are shown various personalities of the witnesses and the rampant corruption in power play in Delhi. The first half ends on a depressing note when the convict is freed from lack of evidence and false testimony.
Vidya now loses her mother as well and her father goes into coma with a heart attack. Alone, she loses all hope.
Rani, as media mogul, picks up the story as well as the film's performance. She had hardly any role in the first half but for her haughty personality.
She conducts sting operations, reopens the case and unites entire India to deliver true justice. She also forces Vidya to resume her fight.
The candle light scene is the most beautiful part of the movie, as is the chemistry between Vidya and Jessica.
