Newcastle United FC has such a great history in English football and it was always consistent in maintaining their position in the league i.e in the top 5.But this season has just gone by for them without any plus points but all negative points including the fight between their player on the pitch.
Newcastle United is also one of the respected clubs in England if not in Europe and especially when they were under Bobby Robson.But since his departure the club has not performed to its limit, infact it is fighting for its league survival..
Here we look at the last wo seasons of Newcastle United:
Season 2003-2004
This was the season in which Newcastle proved their worth in the English football.They finished in the top 5 deservedly.But in other competitions they didnt go too far.Sir Bobby Robson had made a team which gave 110% on the field.They were hard to beat last season and they also qualified for Uefa Cup, a level below Champions league..So overall it was a good season for them..
Season 2004-2005
This season has been nothing short of disastrous for them.It started of badly and eventually they had to sack Sir Bobby Robson who had served this club for long years.The woeful season continued under Souness(manager) and still has not improved.They lost in the semis of Uefa cup and later in the same weak lost the semis of FA cup also.Prior to that they had two players (Lee Bowyer and Dyer) were sent off for fighting on the pitch against Aston Villa eventually leading to both being banned, Dyer for three games and Bowyer for 7 games+ the fine they had to pay.They have just on the 2 games away from home since October and deserve to be in the position they are.After losing to bottom-of-the table side Norwich 2-1, they later lost to Man Utd 2-1 and after Ambrose had put them ahead.
They have dropped 29 points this season from winning positions..
On top of that one plus this season is that Shearer has decided to go on for another season.Shearer is the only fire-power left with NewCastle and has scored 250+ for them.Now this is what I call achievement.
The problem of Newcastle this season has been their internal problems like the players fighting on the pitch and Laurent Robert having a verbal fight with the manager.As also their reliance on Shearer for goals has let them down because goals have dried up for them.
Lets hope that a club of Newcastle's stature recovers from this slump as soon as possible..
