Dilli ki sardi!!

In case you are wondering why I start my review with the lyrics of an obnoxious song (pyar tera dilli ki sardi!! Gimme a break!!), I'd like to clarify that its not because of my love for senseless lyrics, but because what I love most about Delhi is its mystical winter, which bring out the best in this Capital city! This is the best time to visit my city!

I spent the first 11 years of my life in New Delhi, and have experienced it at its best and worst. Among my favourites, are some places, which really embody the true essence of this grand city! So, here goes...

Connaught Place: It is certainly not possible to count how many Sundays I have spent here! For those who basically want to place to hang out, watch a movie, shop and eat great food, this place is excellent!! Walking in its circular structured buildings, one can truly feel like walking in those grand 19th Century English architectures. A must see in dilli!!

Lotus Temple: Actually, I visited this place not when I was living in Delhi, but when I’d gone for a visit. I didn’t know that there was any place in Delhi so tranquil and beautiful than this one! Its one of the most unique places I’ve been to. The peace of mind that you get here is unmatched with any other place!

India Gate: I used to go here as a child a LOT!! India Gate for me stood and still stands as a symbol of greatness! This structure is surrounded by gardens, which are great for picnics and basically hanging around with family and friends! There is also a little lake here, so for those who want to be with…ehm…their “loved ones”, a boat ride suits just fine ;)!

Rashtrapati Bhavan: Actually, more than the Huge mansion itself, I would recommend seeing the Rose Gardens that surround it. They are an Absolute delight to see! Very very pretty! So, for those looking for natural beauty, do visit this place. I don’t know if they allow visits to the Bhavan itself, but the grand approach and great structure itself make this place stand out.

Dilli Haat: Ok, now this is my Favourite place ever!! Anyone who’s a shopping freak and culture lover like me should NOT miss a visit to this amazing place! This place is embedded with the spirit of Indian culture and yet attracts all the modern city gentry. Here one can find true-to-the-core Indian stuff! Not only that, but in this one place you can try out foods from all over India. From Kashmir to Tamil Nadu, from Assam to Rajasthan, its all here…yummy!! Some evening, cultural events are also held here for the music lovers! So, if there’s one place not miss in Delhi, its Dilli Haat!!!

I could go on and name many more of these destinations, but I believe I won’t do justice in describing them as well. Now, you must be wondering how come I haven’t noted a single criticism about this place. Well, don’t be shocked, I don’t think Delhi is a paradise!! I would of course advise anyone visiting for the first time to be aware of the con men and the taxi drivers, which can really ruin your stay here by tricking you into spending loads of money!! All you have to be careful about is not being taken by these people, and you’ll be fine. As for the other little crimes, well I believe there’s no metropolitan city in the world, which doesn’t have these little mishaps. However, I would not recommend an outing late night, since this really not a safe time to venture outdoors. If you really want to go out, then a perfect night out would be at a movie theatre near a relatively safe locale. Delhi doesn't have the clubbing and pubbing culture like Mumbai, but then, every city has its own highlights!

Just a bit of careful planning, and your trip to the Capital can be a memorable one!!

Ok, now just one click and please take a trip the Comments Section! I’m waiting for some helpful comments so that I can improve my writing in my up-coming reviews! So bear with me a bit longer and do comment!! :) Thank you!!
