I visited Nainitaal in September 2000. It was just before Puja Vacation and had benefit of Off Season.
Must do:
Walk around the Nainitaal.
Go for local site seeing, either walking (recommended for those who start early in morning, and also for those who have less budget), on horseback, or simply take a car.
Visit Sherwood (where Amitabh Bachchan Studied)
Go for a Trekk.
See the High Altitude Zoo.
Visit Naini Temple.
Try Punjabi Hotels at far end of the market (25 Rs. Per head, and you will lick your fingers)
Buy Candles from the market.
Take a ride in boat, in Naini Lake.
Around the lake, take a ride in cycle rickshaw, it is real fun.
May do:
Visit Seven lakes
Shop in Tibetan Market.
Don't do:
Do not dirty lake water.
Do not make noise.
Bit of economix:
Rooms may cost anything between 150 to 500 in economy class, depending upon season.
Boat Rides: 15 Rs. Per person.
Food: 25 to 70 Rs., depending upon where you eat, and the season.
Things to carry:
Torch, Warm Cloths, Medicine for cold, Umbrella (if you go during rain), dry foodstuff (if you are a veggy, when you are on trekk, you donot have much choice in this part of India).
