How did I get the impression that this was an uncontrollably hilarious film? Or rather why did I get the impression!!
I say that because expectations always lead to disappointments. And when you are expecting a funny film and you don't get one it leads to some force laughter. Which by the way is no fun!!
The promos of My Big Fat Greek WEdding showed the film was in light vein showcasing the wedding of two people who did not belong to the same caste.
Which is what the film is all about but instead of being comic it is slow and predictable.
Tula is the daughter of Greek parents ... and her father belives that there are only two kinds of people in this world ... Greeks and others who want to be Greeks. Her mother is the dominating one and the sensible one at that. But Tula is an uninteresting, unappealing woman who works in her family restaurant.
She is spellbound by the hero the moment she lays eyes on him. Things change for her when she decides to join part-time college and do some computer courses which in effect lead to her working in her aunt's travel agency. And that is where she meets her hunk once again.
The two meet, date, fall in love ...... predictable!!
But the guy isn't Greek ..... ah predictable!!
He is too in love with her to let go and agrees to convert and have a Greek church wedding .... snore ......
They get married and live happily ever after ... next to Tula's parents.
There are no great performances to write home about, no technical excellence, no twists and turns in the tale ... almost nothing.
The film reminds one of Dilwale Dulhania ... who said we couldn't inspire others?
Except for the one sequence where the guy's parents come to meet the girl's parents ... which is quite funny ... the film is less than ordinary.
Should you watch it? I guess not ....
