Moksh, at the chancery is one of the recent hits amongst the bangalore's ever growing collection of specialty eat-outs. By the way it is the brain-child Jiggs karla, one of the leading culinary gurus of India.

When I first heard of Moksh from a friend of mine, the most ear piercing part of it was 'Pure Vege.'. @#*&!

I have always known these pure vegetarian restaurants to be one of those where people don't order/eat anything other than Palak paneer, Dal makhani, Nan or the boring Thali. With Moksh, I was wrong. I immediately superceded my opinion on such places.

Look: Painted vibrant Orange with the gradient fade to yellow (howzzat?). The usual furniture actually could have been avoided. The Kitchen is open and right in the middle of the restaurant, allowing everybody to see their stuff being made. One very noticeable aspect of this kitchen is there is a Bar (Restaurant, Kitchen separator) where you could sit, dine and chat with the chefs. Maybe they'll share a secret or two about the receipes or tell you why they quit their last job. he he. The music was typical indian instrumental, soothing enough to make you close your eyes and feel good.

Cusine: ummm. They have a pretty wide range of dishes from kilthe phool aur kur kuray paneer to 'tasedy' avial. Kilthe phool was actually broccoli, not cauliflower as I expected; refreshingly different that was. Moksh also claims that the chefs use lots of secret ingredients (herbs) to give the dishes a special flavour. Now that is really cool. I actually couldn't detect any special ingredients simply because I had never tasted those dishes before. This really calls for some experts with a very experienced 'tongue'. I cannot recollect names of most dishes again because of the '1st time syndrome'. Have you ever heard of 'Sandalwood Juice', No? Well, Moksh has it and it tastes absolutely fabulous, don't expect a milk shake kind of thing, it is a nice appetizer with a very mild flavour of Sandalwood. They also have good selections of pickles from around the country like green chilly, sweet mango etc.

Service is excellent; the folks here are always smiling, helping you out with the selections or whatever need be. In fact they gave us free samples of Juices and even desserts in the end. Value for money is a difficult thing to comment on, because it is so relative. How much are you willing to pay for good food. Going by pure numbers yes a digit is extra to the price of everything.

Alcohol is also served nowadays by popular demand, but I strongly recommend you resist that temptation because it can really change the taste of the food. I could feel the mild tingling effect of some of the spices (or herbs?) used in the dishes, which I am sure wouldn't have felt with beer coating on my tongue and my food pipe.

That's all I can think of. Check it out if you are in Bangalore. For Reservations call Chancery : 2276767.
