For the protection of the good, for the destruction of the wicked and for the establishment of righteousness, I am born in every age. This statement is taken from Bhagawat Gita* where Lord Krishna says that I’m born in every age to protect goodness of humanity and it’s sad to see that our government doesn’t believe in all these things.
The recent affidavit which ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) has submitted in court says that there’s no proof of Ramayana and hence we can’t say that the Adam’s Bridge is made by Ram. Let’s take a look on this issue.
Some facts about this bridge:
- Rama Setu is a chain of limestone shoals between island of Mannar near northwestern Sri Lanka and Rameswaram of the southwestern coast of India.
- The bridge is 30 miles (48 KM) long and separates the Gulf of Mannas from the palk Strait
Some of the sandbanks are dry and the sea in the are is very shallow, being only 3 ft to 30 ft (1 m to 10 m) deep
It was reportedly passable on foot up to the 15th century until storms deepends the channel.
- Temple records seem to say that Rama’s bridge was complete above sea level until it broke in a cyclone in 1480 AD.
As per Ramayana, Nila and Nala made the Ram Setu to connect India and Sri Lanka. They were architects and from the blessing of Ram and Varuna (God of Sea) they made this bridge without any difficulty. This is written in Ramayana which is one the most holy books for Sanatana Dharma (Referred as Hindu Dharma hereafter), so there’s no question of raising any issue on this. Authenticity doesn’t come into picture as it is related to our soul. It is not a book but a lifeline for Billions of Hindus across the world.
Now government says, there’s no proof of Ram / Ramayana. They can’t trust a book and we can’t trust them for what they trust in. We don’t trust our government if it can’t trust our tradition, our culture and our beliefs. It’s ridiculous to see such an immature statement from government on a very sensitive matter like this. Doing politics, planning of future course of action, dealing with issue related to nation and national interest is different and understandable but in any case they shouldn’t say such things which can hurt millions of hearts and minds.
I have no issues if we discuss on Setu Samundram Project. I won’t even mind to look into its pros and cons. If it is environment friendly and if it adds value to our growing development then we can continue with this project. There’s no need to drag religious matters in this. We believe in Ramayana with our complete heart mind body and soul. We trust each and every word written in this. We don’t need any proof from any body. We don’t need any certification for existence of Ram / Hanuman or any other character depicted in this book.
If we are dealing with issue related to any religion, we should be very careful about our words. We can never argue about their beliefs. We can’t ask to provide proof. The fact is that there can’t be any proof of any supernatural power. If we say Ram / Krishna / Allah are God, we really can’t have any evidence / proof in favor of this. It’s a matter of trust and it comes from within.
Apart from religious things it’s also going to create so many environmental issues. Some of these issues which I have collected are below.
- Ecosystem of gulf of Mannar will be disturbed
- Pollution in south coastal area will increase
- Coastal erosion because of high tides and energetic waves
- Increase in local sea temperature and it will change the rainfall pattern of this region
- Dust and toxins will affect marine life. Please note that 3600 spices of plants and animals live in this marine area.
When I started writing this review I didn’t know that government is going to change the affidavit which says there’s no proof of Ramayana. It’s a good move but apart from this I would also like to seek clarification from government as why this happened?
