Story:

We had gone to see a movie when my sister bought this book while I happily grabbed ''Namesake'' by Jhumpa Lahiri...I read Memoirs Of Geisha in a sad state of mind. But my mental state quickly changed after reading this beautiful, engrossing book.

Sayuri goes through labyrinth of life with tremendous courage. Driven wild by an encounter, she works towards becoming a Geisha;the thought of which earlier disgusted her...

This novel dwells largely upon the professional rivalry which exists between Geishas and consequently it holds the interest of the readers. People are fond of reading stuff they identify with. And this book provides ample instances of human weaknesses and strengths. Characters like Hatsumomo, Mother, Auntie, Nobu-san, chairman, baron, and prominently Sayuri's older sister proffers keys to unlocking the mysteries in which human existence is enveloped.

In everyone's life, a single defining moment transforms entire life...Sayuri on experiencing that moment embarks upon a journey which is too incredible. The rituals, the superstitions, the ceremonies imperative in a Geisha's life transports readers into an enchanted world.

GEISHA is not a prostitute but she remains far from the virtue of chastity. Her virginity has a price. Her life is devoid of love but passion reigns supreme... Sayuri often mocks people and situations alien to her sensibilities. Her reliance on fate portrays not her insufficiency rather choices she makes.

I have enjoyed reading this mesmerizing book. My sister is currently reading it. And when we discuss it then I feel I need to read it again...
