Hard to find . Review on Mehbooba - 1976

This movie is from the 1980's. It was not a blockbuster and even though I love Rajesh Khanna & Hema Malini. I fell asleep all of the times I watched it!

There is no ''chemistry'' between Hema and Rajesh. Rajesh seems to be an aging star at this point. Kind of chubby, can't quite run, fight , ect.. Is that a hair piece that he wears?? Does Hema wear wigs during her film career? All of her hairdos seem very stiff with an unnatural hair parting. Anyway...

This film starts with Rajesh in his loudest , grooviest clothes ever! He is singing about the reincarnation of a woman Hema. Hema was a court dancer in the Maharigi palace. Of course Hema is the absolute best folk dancer. This is the reason to buy this DVD.

The movie is not very well acted by Rajesh. The surrounding characters are okay. Prem Chopra is in this film and you know how devilish he can be...The love story part is nice but something is missing! That's why I feel there is just no chemistry! I think Hema had recently married Darmendra or they had their first child around this time. I am pretty sure this is the time that Rajesh was affairing Tina Munim?? I'm not sure,but the plot is okay-great cast and costumes but it falls flat. This DVD is so hard to find!!

So there must be a reason that I had to have it.....

Why I am soft hearted for the courtesan that does not get the man because he marries a more respectable girl, I don't know. Maybe that was MY past life....

Rajesh is the palace musician-really?? Hema is the mysterious dancer-no!! But the dance that she performs when she first meets Rajesh is astounding!! to say the least!!

Then their romance begins; but the jealous cousin snares Rajesh and then Hema dances for their wedding. Lot's of tears-broken bangles-and mujras that tell us the story without saying a word.

As with many Bollywood movies-what starts and ends ONE WAY -at the intermission point the movie goes into a COMPLETELY different story all together!! That's where Prem Chopra comes in...now EVERYONE is from a poor village-huh??

Anyway...Rajesh karate kicks...spins....sings ....and raises his arms to the sky as usual...but that's okay.. we love that stuff

Hema hugs up close to him as they ride off on the wagon...you know Hema...she often grabs the reigns herself!!...

I would rent this movie if you wanted to spend a few bucks. I would not BUY it

like I did.

Oh!! and the curly hair ''buddy guy'' in all of these films-he's in this too...but you knew that! I just don't know his name!!
