Maximum Head Crack (trust me, I knew this "enitity" in NY in the 1990s when he was writing filler for a computer magazine).
The problem with this book is that I could not read more than ten pages commenting: "Yeah, that Desi is at it again!" - in other words - having known this guy way back when he was Minimum Suketu after graduating from Iowa's Writers WS - I couldn't really concentrate on the tepid prose - too busy dreaming what I'll be doing with it after going through my paper shredder - use the shreds to stuff my seat cushions.
Okay - guy goes to his birthplace - starts trouble with the Mumbai Indians - and then conveniently hops on a jet plane back to Jackson Heights, NY - so what? I mean what's the point if this guy doesn't intend to live in Mumbai -? Bal Thakeray? Let him run for Congress or Senate in Jackson Heights, NY - would be popular with the local white Indian haters (remember those racist pigs in New Jersey - "Dot Busters"?).
So the long and short of my review: Suketu can indeed write - but you and I could probably come up with a better yarn....
