Story:

Sidney Sheldon in his book "Master of the Game", describes the unique story of Kate Blackwell, the main protagonist of the novel – through the journey of a girl and her metamorphosis into a woman. A trip down the dynamic memory lanes from her early teens to her old age. The novel portrays four generations captured into one book, all of them are striking in their own way. The novel is not only mind blowing but also awe inspiring.

The whole story revolves around Kate Blackwell. The novel begins with her and ends with her as well. As the reader gradually turns the pages of the book, they witness the changes in lives of Kate Blackwell’s parents, Jamie and Maggie Maguire, her son Tony Blackwell and his twin daughters Eva and Alexandra. The story flashes from past to present and again to past without leaving any scope of ambiguities or confusion for the readers. The author portrays the leading protagonist Kate Blackwell as a strong and shrewd woman who outwits and overshadows all the other characters. Even her evil spirited young grand-daughter Eve is found lacking compared to her infinite charm and charisma. Sheldon has merged sex and power-play in an outstanding fusion.

Kate’s only aim to stay at the top of the entrepreneurial level, to run the company and keep it ahead of other competitors, come hail or high water. Among all these characters she stands tall and steady always thinking of how to improve her empire. This makes her distinct from any other Sheldon’s characters. As said earlier, she shines so much throughout the novel, that the other characters fades away. Sheldon depicts Kate as a strikingly beautiful and voluptuous woman who has surpasses her male counterparts to the hilt, charms them and wraps them around her manicured fingers.

The thrilling book begins with her ninetieth birthday and ends with it as well. Then it revolves around her father Jimmy, her own life story, then her son’s obsession for painting and how Kate crushes it and lastly her two grand daughters. Traveling from the diamond shores of Africa to the hep American social circle, the novel is not only a fast read but would compel the reader to keep on reading till one has reached the last page. Life of Kate Blackwell was definitely portrayed as a roller-coaster ride. She is depicted as a strong, virile, intelligent and powerful woman who sets out to conquer the world and comes out to be the true Master in the game of life. Sheldon undoubtedly brings out an unputdownable book that would make the reader’s heart beat faster with the turn of each pages.
