Story:

This was my first Sydney Sheldon books and I was a bit disappointed. The title seemed very promising. As I started reading, the prologue and the first few chapters were captivating but as the story came into view it somewhat lost its charm.

It begins with Jamie McGregor hunt for diamonds in South Africa. That part was engrossing. Then the focus got shifted to his daughter, Kate and her grand daughters Eve and Alexandra. This part was not that thrilling. I sometimes felt there was repetition of things and I kept on wondering whether the story was leading somewhere or not. Initially the story’s centre of attention was diamonds & business and then abruptly the focus got transferred to boring family affairs. Even the murder mystery was easily solved.

And at the end of the day I’m hugely dissatisfied with the ending.

It may be a best seller and Sydney Sheldon might be the ‘Master of the unexpected’ but it’s definitely not a remarkable work as it promises to be.
