I am driving my own zen since last 2 years. I own the lx model which is the lowest in its range. Its a very simple no-nonsense car which can never do anything wrong. Its not as sophisticated and modern as some of the newer cars in the market. Thats where its loosing the competetion - not being trendy and contemporary.
I have discussed with many other zen owners and they have all agreed that no other car is more reliable than the zen. I know people who own this car for more than 13 years and still going smooth without major trouble. People who own more than one car of which the zen is one, says that its the most trouble free of all cars. It can run decades witout problems.
Cons:
The third level AC makes unacceptable noise. There is a noticeable difference in power delivery when driving with and without AC. But that is only if you try to accelearte in high gears. If you do follow the simple rules written in the manual (0 to 10 - 1st gear, 10 to 20 - second, 20 to 30 - 3rd) then you will never feel the lack of power. Believe me, I have tested this many times with AC on.
Pros:
Its much better in highways than other small cars mainly because of its low height. Can handle pot holes better than expected. Manueverability is fantastic in city (but probably less than 800/santro)
Overall its a car which is engineered to perfection provided with all basic features and the best engine. It has left no scope for further improvement (keeping the price in mind). So, not surprisingly Maruti will discontinue this model. Yet it will remain as one of those unbeatable best sellers.
