Stunning Swift Vdi-90bhp with digital tuning Box. Review on Maruti Suzuki Swift VDi

All of us know about the Swift and its success all over the world.The flag ship of Suzuki's cars in india seems to be 'Swift Diesel' with its amazing performance ( power and fuel efficiency).

Ride and handling had always been Swifts Plus pt. You dont get such confidence while driving any The fuel efficiency of Swift's is also 2 kmpl better than Palio. This shows the tuning and performance orientedness of Swift. After having the car for 10 months I was totally satisfied with it. I was getting about 18.5 kmpl (city with AC on) and 26.5 kmpl(Highways without AC).

Hatches across india at speeds of about 130 ~ 140 kmph. Followin r the fig taken frm AutoCar (ACI, 08 Apr).

By this time I heard about the 'petes tuning box' available in the market for Swift and read about the customer reviews on it. It promised to add 20% more power and torque.

The box connects to the output of the ECM which is connected to the Bosch's common rail system. The output of the box is then fed to the common rail management system. upon fitting the box the engine delivers the following figures.

Max Power                    Max Torque

stock :             75 bhp@4000 rpm         190Nm @2000 rpm.

with Tuning Box:    92 bhp@4000 rpm         215Nm @2000 rpm.

I was much inclined about buying the box. But I was startled to hear the cost of the box marketed in India. It was sold for 30, 000 Rs(including VAT). I retreated after hearing the price.

After a months time while I was talking over phone , to my brother who lives in USA, I was telling him about the tuning box for Swift. He readily replied that he knows them( he owns a Toyata Camry, petrol). He said he would try one there, as US is  global market and he could it cheap there. After a week he said he could buy it for there for me (Its sold at 50% less than the cost in India , since these products are considered extremely premium and re-sellers demand high margin and stocking fee).

He sent me one and thereafter the life changed for me with my Swift.The product came with complete installation kit(manual and wiring kits). Installation was simple, a 5 minute job.Once fitted , I started the car, left it idle for a minute and began to test it for performance ... The outcome was a big 'WHOOAAAAAAA.....' ... IT WAS TOTALLY UNBELIEVABLE.   The car was much smoother to drive in all the gears , up to 5200 rpm, willing to reach 4200~4500 rpm easily.

The stock swift too was no slouch, after crossing 2000 rpm the vehicle would jump forward with rage. But the power wont last long, it would wane away after 3500~4000 rpm depending on which gears we drive.

But with the box fitted, it was totally a different story. The following no's would prove it.                                0-100kmph      20-80km(3rd)    40-100km (4th) 40-100km(5th)      50-100Kmph(3rd)

The difference may not be significant unless in real world, when you drive it in highways, the mind blowing performance it delivers, leaves an envy on other car drivers.

I 'll be really happy on seeing the tailing cars getting lost in the rear view mirror.

One Sunday morning, I tested the top speed of the car. I stamped the accelerator (shifting to 5th at 120 kmph) , I managed an indicated 180 kmph on speedo. Considering speedometer error, still the tacho showed 4350Rpm. It is 300 rpm over stock Swift. approximating to 172 kmph.

One of my friend owns a Verna Crdi, 110 bhp. We went on a drag race in chennai- Mahabalipuram East Coast Road. The verna was about 50 feet behind till 120kmph. Even though verna boasts of 110 bhp and 24kgm torque, swift with lesser turbo lag , gear ratios and tuning box (important to mention) leaves Verna to eat its dust.

Last night, returning from Vellore to Chennai, I had similar fun with a latest Scorpio Mhawk(125 bhp, 29 kgm torque). Whenever we overtake a truck we wuld slow to 40~50 kmph. I would be behind him and we both would accelerate. I would zoom forward till 120kmph. We had such fun till we reached chennai.

All these fun and thrill came with the best mileage I had recorded to 25.2 kmpl.Go ahead , my dear Swift owners.. Digi tune your Swifts and beat up the Verna's and Scorpio's.
