The small car segment has been the most important segment in the Indian car market, since the time the first car of that size, M800, was introduced here. After 28 years, the M800 was completely replaced by the Alto 800.
The Alto carried the M800 legacy ahead to become the highest selling car in India since its launch in 2012. Maruti Suzuki has launched a mid-life facelift of the Alto 800. The new car is available for a price of Rs 2.49-3.34 lakh and is now 9 per cent more fuel-efficient than the earlier model. The changes in the facelift include a new grille, which has been replaced by a slimmer one with the logo mounted below it. The car also gets a provision for fog lamps, which are well-integrated in the bumper. The lower half of the bumper houses a large intake, which as compared to the last generation car has been inverted to make it look more aggressive. The car now has a fuel economy of 24.7kmpl and the CNG version also shows an improvement of over 10 per cent above its predecessor with a mileage of 33.44kmpl. Other updates include remote keyless entry and updated interior upholstery across the range.
