I bought this book in the Airport whilst I was looking for something light to read. I had heard from my cousin that she loved the movie. I am not a dog-lover but not a dog-hater either. I was very happy when I started reading and discovered that it the book isn’t wholly about a dog but about a couple, their love, their happiness, their aspirations, their struggles .Its about their life as they go through sickness, miscarriage, pregnancies, kids, moving countryside etc.All along which they have this dog Marley sharing their ups and downs.
This is the story about a young couple John and Jenny, who get this Labrador puppy to make their family complete and get some parenting experience before they actually become parents. The dog is nothing like the family dogs they grew up with. Marley is a happy but misbehaved hyper dog. Their innumerous efforts to train the dog are hilarious. The many funny episodes of Marley’s misbehaviors keeps you amused and make you want more of Marley.
I liked the book; it does not have a exotic style of writing nor extravagant use of language. It is simple genuine and totally lovelable.It is because it is about real people, a real dog and real life incidents. I did have this overwhelming feeling when I read the part of Marley dying.
It may not have been the perfect family dog. But indeed a lovable one. RIP Marley!
