Marleshwar is a place in Sangameshwar subdivision of Ratnagiri district in the state of Maharashtra. Marleshwar is known for the Cave God Mahadev Temple. Devotees can handle venomous snakes here. Dhareshwar is a waterfall on the Bav river which is another tourist attraction of Marleshwar it always running even in summer. In rainy season its Haven. Temple is on little height.
Marleshwar temple is surrounded by bountiful nature. Due to the advent of rains, we were greeted by misty mountains with clouds swirling by, small waterfalls and abundant greenery. The climb up to the temple took us around 20 minutes with a few breaks to catch our breath and click photos on the way. There are foodstalls along the entire climb.
The temple being in a cave is very dark and slightly claustrophobic. With many people inside the temple, it had become very hot inside. Though we are generally apprehensive of taking sweetmeats from outside any temple, however the pedas in the shop just before the turn of the temple, were absolutely delicious and fresh.
But as is the norm of tourist attractions in our country, the entire climb upto the temple is filled with garbage. Plastic bottles, wrappers etc accompany you the entire way to the top. In a land of god fearing people, I fail to understand how anybody can litter the pathway to reaching the God. The administration is requested to please help clean the mess.
If you ignore the litter but focus your eyesight 20 feet above the ground, then you will be greeted by the most beautiful and soul satisfying scenic beauty and you will definitely feel as if you are in the lap of heaven.
