Its one of the most hilarious amd entertaining films made since quite some time. But at the same time ats illogical, absurd at times. If you believe that films are meant to entertain us, and thats all they have to do, go watch it. Its just the kind of film you would love. But if you are unlike me, and feel that the film should also make some sense then you are in for some disappointment, for sense hardly it makes any.
The story, the casting, the screen play everything has no connection with reality. The script is cliched if at all there is any. Coming back to the film, it starts off rather awkwardly. The first few minutes of the film do not quite have the flow which is so characteristic of the film. But once our man reaches college, the film flows like a mountain river.
The sequence of events is so fast that one forgets the illogicality of the action sequences that come. There is a perfect dosage of humor also, thanks to boman irani's cameo. But come second half and the film really slows down a bit. Farah Khan remembered every film she saw while growing to put into this gem of a pot boiler.
In second half she gives her tribute to masoom, and andaaj(govinda's), and the story makes turns like a hiily highway. Performance wise this was a shahrukh khan film. As most of his films are, nothing unexpected. This man has surely grown up as an actor, a performer and a superstar. He has it all in him. weather it be serious scene or comic, dance or action he delived, and delivered it so well.
Sushmita sen was a surprise package. She looked stunning and sensuous at the same time tender and mellow. One must not forget that in 94 miss india contest, this lady had defeated aishwarya rai!!
Perhaps its time she should get her rightful place in the bollywood ordering. Sunil shetty was a disappointment. Perhaps the man is not suited for negative roles. He dosn't look like someone who will harm anybody. Spitfire satish and boman did their job well and so did the college group. Kabir bedi was unconvinving as a geneal, and kiran kher and nasiruddin were not used to their potential.
The new couple of zahed and amrita, though looked misfit for each other, are cute and performed decently. Lastly farah khan certainly made a dream debut, surprisingly the choreography in this film was no great shakes.
