My wife told it looks like a sucker cat fish, when she viewed for the first time. With unattractive front grill to small tail lamps, it really an unattractive car. Then .... who told Maruti 800 or Hyundai Santro the attractive cars.. Still they run and run quite efficiently leaving all competitors behind. Logan belongs to that category. Under the disguise of a sucker cat, there lies a great space, engine and comfort.
My logan 1.4 glx is nearly completing 2Ks. Having own Maruti zen for nearly 7 years, it is hard to adjust to logan. I am talking in terms of space and not in terms of performance. One should not compare this car with Fiesta, Aveo, SX4.... ( People compare with Merc too.. Haha). Instead compare this with ikon, UVA or swift. You will find the difference. This car is not as powerful as swift, instead it gives good rear seat comfort. It is not as trendy as UVA, but the engine is smooth. U will not find whether it is running or not on traffic signals ( UVA, you can makeout). The driver's view is much better than that of ikon. I drove all these cars and ultimately zeroed in on logan glx.
Coming back to performance, hope none of us take this car to a racing arena like WRC/F-1/A-1. The engine noise is different than usual 'purr'ing engine of zen. It takes some time for the owner to adjust for this kind of sound. There is no vibration. I have driven on ghats, highways with five, loggy managed in its own style without disappointing me.
"Average kitna hai"- This question is being asked by all those who graduate from a two wheeler to four wheeler, as average is very important thing for a two wheeler owner. Hope around 13 is a good average for this car. But with AC off, there is an addition of 2 ~ 3 KMS as AC of this car is "really good". I found AC is better than that of my friend's fiesta.
We had a mileage run with logan here in Mangalore. Many of us got around 20. But then it was a "Mileage" run.
Coming to comfort, the driver's position is good, my family enjoys the back seat. Gear shift is ok ok. There are may websites, who makes blah.. blah.. on wiper position, AC knob position, location of power window switch...... Simple solution for all these is, GET USED TO this by looking at the price tag.
However there are some areas of concern as well which has to be looked by Mahindras, if they really want to achieve their target ( 50000 cars per year!!)
a. The service network has to be strengthened. There is no electric technician in my logan service center. They outsource!!!
b. Rear windows come down only by 2/3rd. Rest one third is protect your kid!!! Rediculous !!
c. The doors make rattling noise within few days which is common problem read in web. But still nothing is being done.
d. No remote boot opening!!!
e. Central locking switches get stuck after wash. You need to soak them to work again. (twice happened with me.)
f. Interiors can be made little better without much investment ( color, finish etc, )
g. More colors please.....
That is all friends...
