Mahindra Quanto - C6 Model Review. Review on Mahindra Quanto C4

Thought of writing my first review in Mouthshut.com on a Car named Mahindra Quanto. Test driven the car and it was really a beautiful experience. Unlike other mahindra products this product also ends with the letter'O'.:). This car is a value for money product.

*Some Key points:

1. Small looking outside but spacious inside.

   
   




2. The body is very strong and rigid.

   
   




3. It is first of class engine with only 3 cylinders.

   
   




4. Power: 100 with 240 Nm Torque with 1493cc engine.

   
   

Note: Almost the same cc engine is being used by Swift, Indica ev2 and other sedans. The point is Mahindra was able to accommodate this engine by fine tuning in a better way to carry the big kerb weigh of a MUV( multi utility vehicle) .

1. Easily accommodate 5 people and another 2 seats preferably for lean people/kids.

5a. Even 4 lean people also could sit comfortably in the second row.

1. Micro hybrid technology stops the engine at signals and starts once we press the clutch( Not available in the base model alone)

   
   




2. The basic model onroad price comes to Rs.712842/-( As of Oct 19-2013) in Chennai. This is a good news as one can go for this vehicle if he has an option to choose any diesel variant of Maruti Swift Vdi, Tata Indica Vista, Tata Indigo, Maruti Ridz) as the price of these vehicles come between 6.6-7.5 lakhs. 8. Boot space is good

   
   




3. ARAI Mileage is 17.2, but anything more than 15 should be good

   
   




4. The width of Quanto is same as that of Xylo.

   
   




5. Basic variant( C2) has AC/Heater facility.

1. The last 2 seats could not accommodate fat people

   
   




2. Some people might not like the design as it looks like a flat soap box.

   
   




3. Basic variant does not have Power window and Micro hybrid technology and it has only the colors D.White, M.Silver, and F.Black

   
   

We can analyse that:

Ecosport   -  Duster   -  Maruti Ertiga are all competitors each having its own+ and - in terms of look and feel and cost etc.

When we compare with them I would say that Mahindra Quanto is one among the best in terms of price. That too we get a basic diesel variant in a on road price of 712842/- as said above. This is by an Indian make producing such a car. Since the length of the car is less than 4metres the excise duty is reduced there by reducing the price. Car comes with 2 years or 50, 000 KM Warranty. Our family have purchased C6 model on deepavali. I had a chance to go for a trip to Vellore. And I thought of writing down the following:

1. Shock absorbent are very rigid and tough and rides are bumpy when traveled through pot holes and uneven roads

   
   




2. Very sad that the vehicle jumps up and down when running in bad roads

   
   




3. The overall mileage I got was 16 with full Low AC all time. I have filled full tank of diesel and after a trip of 320 Km I could see the fuel indicator using 37% of total fuel.

   
   




4. I was able to reach Max speed of 140 KMs in a neat good road

   
   




5. AC was good

   
   




6. Only headache I had was jumpy bumpy rides which gave body pain and headache.

   
   




7. This vehicle is best suited for neat and good roads

   
   

Overall its good but I suggest to check the vehicles behaviour in bad roads!

Later on I checked with my relatives who also traveled in the same road in Innova and they also felt the same bumpy rides. The road was not good. I was not satisfied while driving the vehicle on pot holes, but later understood that even other vehicles also felt the same.

Some key experience

1. Cleaning the vehicle is very difficult as it is very tall and huge:)

   
   




2. We should be very careful while taking a reverse drive as we might hit someone due to its huge size

   
   




3. Vehicle handling in road traffic is Awesome.

   
   




4. The C6 model is a good choice for money and it comes to 8.15 Lakhs. This C6 model does not have Alloy Wheel, Air bags and Reverse Parking sensor.

   
   




5. I feel it is good to attach a reverse parking sensor.

   
   




6. I have asked for Alloy wheels, but they could not provide it for free replacement.:) But an Alloy wheel for this vehicle is really a good thing. I will attach a sample excel image while gives the vehicle comparision with other vehicles and found that it would be useful for people before making a decision like parking, speed, engine size, length, width, height, boot space, turning radius etc.give me some time.

   
   




7. The Width of Quanto is same as that of Xylo. But the Length is 4m with out the stepney tyre attached. Hence considreing many factors the vehicle is a VFM in the current market.

   
   

Overall the Quanto is a good family fit. But for new car drivers I suggest you to test drive and check your driving sense whether this can really fit for you.

Keeping the vehicle clean both interiors and exteriors is sometimes challenging, but when

we achieve this then there is a great value for the vehicle.

What I learn from experience is that the cost of oil has a VAT and other taxes etc and the bill amount comes to 5000/- rupees. If the same service is done by a local person it would be just 3500/- and we pay 1500 extra to the govt. in the form of taxes. Very sad.

Ok now we need to understand that in order to run any car we need to check/replace the following periodically during our service.

Air filter, Oil filter and the Engine Oil. Also check for coolant level between min and max level. If it is low then add water to it. If just these things are taken care then any new vehicle would run for years. But the point is if all these things are done in front of you then it is a full proof service. Else we have to believe that these things are changed.  Once you see the quality of your used engine oil and the new oil, then we can understand about our car in a better way.

It is not necessary to use recommended engine oil and we can use a better quality ones. They recommend 20W40. But If we put 10W30 grade of engine oil also.

Ok lets understand

See 20W40 would be of moderate quality

15W40 somewhat better than above

15W30 somewhat better, 10W30, 0W30 still better.

Better is the quality->Higher is the price of the engine oil. The grade speaks about viscosity.

By nature the lower grade oil wears out soon.

The Air Filter can be cleaned, but in Quanto/Xylo, I see that it has oil layer before the filter and it could not be cleaned and rather be replaced every 30000 Kms. But in fiesta/indica/swift etc the air filter can be taken out and blown to remove dust and put back again. If it is really damanged then we can replace them.

One more thing that: The new battery of a car should be taken care by filling in distilled water in the caps. There would be 6 or 7 caps on top of the battery and distilled water level decreases in the battery and it should be filled once a year atleast to ensure better battery life. Any normal car battery service centres can do this easily. If this is taken care then the life of the battery would come for 10 Years. If not then the life would be just 5 years and after 5 years we have to purchase another new battery for the car.

The ends of the battery electrodes should be cleaned and should not rust or accumulate dirt.

All these small small things helps to maintain the car for long periods of time.
