No matter who you are you can't please everyone.. There can't be anything in this world that will be liked by everyone! Like that MTV is not for everyone.. Their shows get extreme responses.. Either you hate them or love them!
But I like anything that interests me.. I am not blinded with preconceived notions, TV being one of the forms of entertainment, I am always looking out for new stuff.. what impresses me is originality! One of the major reasons why I was drawn to this show was that it was original! ( I don't think Roadies is copied from any other show, if it is otherwise please let me know)
Format:
There is this saying which goes.. "People are not bad, Circumstances make them bad" , Remember that friend of yours who was sweet in college but you go on a trip with him/her with other friends.. that's when you realize it ain't that sweet living with them.. All you want to do is run home?
Now Imagine 13 complete strangers sharing their lives with each other for 40 days competing with each other to WIN! You can pretty well guess what's going to happen!!
These 13 people are chosen through auditions which are the best part of the show according to me, simply because you get to see some very interesting characters.. Here again, I am not speaking about one season.. ( As I said earlier, the quality of the show is deteriorating since season 6)
Through out this journey there are lot of tasks (usually physical ones) that the Roadies have to perform either for immunity from vote outs or for money which will eventually be given to the winner!
History and Present Situation:
The show is into its 8th season now.. What started off as a crazy show with strange people going on a road trip on bikes has become a national obsession.. Everyone wants to become a Roadie! This is one of the very few shows which got better every season.. till season 5, but 6 & 7 were not that good.. Looking forward to season 8!
Why it is so popular:
I don''t know why its popular, but may be because if you win it or make an impression you can become a MTV VJ or get into reality TV or go the saas bahu serial way! Its the 15 minutes of fame that people so desperately crave for!
What I like:
Apart from the concept, I really like the pace of this show.. Every week someone will be eliminated for sure.. And the intentionally/ unintentional funny fights that the roadies get into.. I find them entertaining! :P And sometimes I have seen a few roadies who are truly passionate about what they are doing (the tasks), that's good to see,it happens only once in a while!
To give an example, there was this one girl in season 6 who said that she had 3 serious Boy friends at one time!!!! Now that's funny! :-P
Why its lost its charm now (for me):
The last 2 seasons were extremely disappointing for me , don't know kuch missing tha! Kya? Pata nahi..
May be the raodies weren't interesting enough or the tasks weren't challenging.. Don't know..
This year again.. I feel kuch missing hai.. Its just lost its charm I feel.. The auditions were not at all funny or interesting.. The first episode was okay! I will watch the next episode and decide if I should watch the entire season..
Now, what's the whole point of writing this review??
If you want some entertainment on a lazy sunday watch season 4, 5 .. Stay away from it for now!
PS: I am not an aspiring Roadie! :-)
