MTNL Broadband is Broad Nightmare

*MTNL Broadband Awful support (December 2008)


*I have an MTNL Broadband connection . I do not have anMTNL Broadband connection. In fact its both. I have it and yet I do not haveit.


I have had MTNL broadband connection for over a year at my home. UnfortunatelyAirtel or TATA Indicom do not have cables in my part of Rohini and they can notprovide broadband services.


Now the story. In summer this year Irealized that I am getting unusually high bills on broadband usage. Uponcontacting I was told that my be someone is hacking and using my line.


Tired of chasing Sanchar-hut and exchange office, I finally decided todisconnect, and in early October it was officially disconnected.


In December I decided to get it again as I need tooperate from my home and besides MTNL had a combo plan called 599 that removesmonthly rental of Rs. 250 and gives an unlimited hours and download facility.


So on 1st December the booking was made and the new plan wasactivated in my account.


But still I did not get the broadband working on my system.


I contacted the 1504 helpline who will sometime tell me that my connection wasokay and in the next call I will be informed that it is inactive. This has been the case since last 7 days.


CALLING 1504: Beware that even if they let you choose the standard option (Thatcame with the IVRS) to select a language, I never found someone to be able tospeak in English. No big deal. I agree.But these call centre boys are ignorant, ill trained, and most shockinglyabusive. When I insisted that they should let me know the problem , I was showeredwith choicest guttural swearing. In most calls, I was told to wait for a minuteand the line is dropped. This happens somany times. Finally if someone picks up, he can hardly provide any support. I wish MTNL has a system of checking theperformance of their call center. It is most unfair that MTNL gets unjustadvantage and a license to rob and harass people.


The fact is that they have started billing me for the broadband, which is actually not activated. More importantly I have no idea why and they cant tell either. I have contacted the line man, the Sub div engineer and the divengineer. I have been to the Sanchar hut, I have made hundreds of calls to1500, 1504 but to no avail. I even tried the GM MTNL Vigilance department (The number 23320707 and Fax 23327460obtained from 197) but today being EID Holiday , may be, no body picked up the phone. One would assume that in the least the vigilance department is alive allthe time.


Unless the number given to me by the 197 is wrong, this is a cause of concern. If our security people are lax, who will safeguard us?I really wanted to report the abusive behavior of the1504 support boys, but where do I complain? I also sent an e-mail message to the help desk. But as anticipated, there hasbeen no reply.MTNL connection works well when it works. But ifsomething goes wrong, the only thing you can do is to pray. I hope Reliance orTata Indicom or Airtel will soon have their cables laid out so that I can shiftwithout delaying a breath. If more people are disconnecting from MTNL, it is because of the rotten state of support. The department is old, cumbersome and extremely uncooperative. The phone and broadband from MTNL is still provided asa great privilege. They have no one but the private companies to thank them since MTNL is doing a great effort in driving their business to them.I am going to contact the GM MTNL via fax and report back what happened.In the meantime, my experience says that touch MTNL Broadband as the absolute last resort and get the hell out of it on the first opportunity.
