Hindi movies may not do well as usual but regional cinema is going great guns. Take for example the recently released Punjabi film LOVE PUNJAB. It is a simple movie underlying family bond that can take a beating before ambition.

Many Indians migrate for greener pastures overseas but job overtakes family time. Ambition to excel and make more money collapses the family. This can be seen in couples increasing fighting over small things. This has become an endemic that had led to increasing divorces. Family life has thus been reduced to grim reality. A reality from where there is no escape unless one resorts to compassion and understanding.

The story of the movie is simple but it portrays today's reality. It is how the nuclear family deals with the pressures overseas without the able support of elders in a joint family back home.

Pargat Brar(Amrinder Singh, 36) and his wife Jessica(Sargun Mehta Dubey, 27) live abroad along with their young son Manvir Tuti(Manveer Johal). But their life is far from peaceful. The nuclear family faces challenges of ambition. The couple has dreams of their own and they run parallel instead of together. Career takes preference over family. Since the couple cannot coordinate, this leads to differences.

And the obvious happens. There are bitter and petty fights. These fights before the kid Manveer disturb the kid and he goes into depression. Manveer also is racially bullied in school. He cannot deal with this dual pressure. His parents take him to a psychiatrist, who suggests that a change of scene is necessary for the kid to be among his people and know his culture.

The couple take the kid to their homeland Punjab. They do find peace but Punjab itself is on the verge of transformation with people transforming it like Canada, UK, America or Australia. Is this good. The couple realizes their follies and instead of divorce, all ends well.

The movie runs well until interval. Post interval, it loses momentum and has a deja vu feeling. Still, it is a heart-warming film. We Indians prefer tradition and culture. And this is enforced by the box office collections. The movie is proving to be a hit.

Kid Manveer is a delight to watch. Amrinder Singh is having his second hit after ANGREJ(2015) and he has already announced ANGREJ 2. Sargun looks lovely in her role and gives able support to Amrinder. As there is no over-acting, the movie proceeds well. Amrinder's father is played by Yograj Singh and mother by Nirmal Rishi. Both lend credible support.

Amrinder has sung four songs(Heerey, Shaan Wakhri, Zindagi, Goriyan Bahawan) and all are hummable. The singer excels both as an actor and singer. Kapil Sharma has sung Akhiyan de Taare and it is pleasing. The album has two more songs - Jenny Johal's Dowein Nain and Ranjit Bawa's Des. All songs have turned out well ad suits the situations.

Watch the movie for it shows a reality that abroad you may earn money but at the cost of family. So be satisfied in your own country and be content with whatever you earn. Santoshi sada sukhi.

It is all about return to the roots. Lovely movie with an excellent message.
