For long it has been a hallowed portal from where Nehru and Sardar Patel made historic speeches and decisions that are spoken in hushed tones even in the corridors today; unfortunately, that mask has been oh-so-slowly peeling since live telecasts of the proceedings started a few years back. Yawns, listless scratching of one's body, repeated anxious glances at the watch is all one is able to see and the other extreme is hoardes of hooligans (oops! I apologise) MPs rushing to the well of the house to stall proceedings under one flimsy pretext or the other.Ministers are frequently caught with their pants down trying to give evasive and illogical replies - for the simple reason that they did not prepare for the Question hour - when the stakes are 1 billion people and growing at a healthy pace.
Havent we heard of something called Accountability? If you work for the private sector, presentations, powerpoints, back-up laptops and crisp, concise hardsell are the order of the day; here, we have a bunch of predominantly uneducated its trying to steer a nation forward at a time when global economies are growing nimbler and agile - adapting to the fast changing economic scenario - MPs who think red tapism is the desi version of red label and ''balance sheet bottom line'' brings a michievous look on their face for reasons best known! Did we talk about Accountability? - hey ! I must be joking!!
To make a long story short, we are a nation run by uneducated drunkards, thieves, womanisers as well as tottering old folks called MPs.
Remember, one Sonia or Vajpayee do not a summer make.
We need professionals - hardcore, young, energetic, impatient and result oriented to take this nation by its scruff and pull it ahead into the future. Remember, China is already snapping at our heels in IT after swamping us with manufacturing goods from tyres to toys. Could someone please standup?
