I just got myself a present that I've been wanting for a long time. An ''all in one'' office machine. It's the Lexmark X 63 copier/printer/scanner/fax.

Sounds impressive doesn't it. One machine to do it all.

HA-HA-HA

Yeah, right!

It comes with a CD for installation. Easy enough.

It says it can scan, copy, print and send and receive faxes. What a deal.

So, I inserted the CD and began following explicit instructions on how to install. It took me through the steps one by one. (Unfortunately, I had to remove my Logitec quick camera), but I trudged on and installation was finally complete. ''Installation complete, welcome to Lexmark X63.''

So, I tried my fax machine.......WOW! It worked. I scanned a picture and printed it out, that worked too. I copied a picture from a computer site....Nothing. So I tried to print a written page that I had done in my word pad......Nothing. It will not print anything other than something I scan and copy myself.

CONSTANT ERROR MESSAGES ''Printer not communicating''..Next message, ''This application is busy, please try again'' Third message, ''Hardware not connected''

OK..I uninstall and reinstall twice more...Nothing helps.

I go to the Lexmark.com help site, put in all the info asked for, register my X63, send an E-mail regarding my problem....Next day I get an automatic response mail as follows......

It is now October 11 and still no reply.

What seemed like a good idea,''a present to myself'', turned out to be a waste of time and money.

It offered so much: Scanning, Coping, Printing, faxing. So much to do , so little time...Ha, so much time and won't do anything is more like it.

So, there goes my color pictures, greeting cards, my professional looking letters, my printing of good articles and stories and my $169.99. Next step, calling Lexmark and asking for a return address and a full refund.

Anyone have the name of a decent machine for me????
