Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar also known as Nightingale Of India was born in Indore on September 28, 1929. Her father, Pandit Dinanath was a renowned classical singer and theatre actor. At the age of five, she started to work as an actress in her father's musical plays. After her father’s death , at the tender age of 13, she had to struggle to look after her family.
She trained under various Ustads and Pandits, since then she has come a long way. Initially she imitated NoorJehan ( A great singer who migrated to Pakistan after partition) but slowly developed her own unique style. She has sung in various Indian languages with equal élan. Even at this age she has youthful voice and can give much younger singers a run for money. She has been mired in controversies too, it was rumoured that she did not let other talented singers including her sister Asha Bhosale comeup. She also was dead against construction of flyover on Peddar Road which would have eased traffic congestion.
