First the formalities….

Director: Rajkumar Hirani

Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Vidya Balan, Boman Irani, Diya Mirza

Here is a lesson from director Rajkumar Hirani on how to make a sequel and not lose the sanctity of the original. Here is one film Hirani, nay Bollywood can be proud of. Although the genre is comedy, but there is lot of drama and social message as well… I’ll take you through all that as we go ahead.

Except for the two characters, the film is not a continuation of the same story or repeat of other characters. Also back are Boman Irani, Jimmy Shergill. Vidya Balan replaces Gracy Singh, while Diya Mirza and some new faces are added to the list.

This time around, Munna and Circuit are well settled in the ‘dadagiri’ business. Munnabhai is in love with a radio jockey, Jhanvi (Vidya Balan), and this time around does dirty work for a builder Lucky Singh (Boman Irani).

Munna wins a radio contest with great team work, very similar to the way he cleared MBBS. Munna pretends to be a professor of History with Jhanvi. As luck would have it, Jhanvi invites Munna to give a lecture on History to her family. Munna is in a fix and ends up sitting in a ‘Gandhi granthalaya’ (Gandhi library) without sleeping for 3 days. What does he gain in these 3 days- A bit of Gandhi gyaan, and his truly Mr. Gandhi ji itself as a friend… yes, Gandhi ji starts living with Munnabhai as much as Circuit, but the problem is that no one else can see him!

Now the complication… Lucky Singh's (Boman Irani) motivation is to get his daughter married to a very wealthy man's son, and he will do whatever he can to ensure it happens. Vidya Balan lives with her grandfather in a bungalow called 2nd Innings shared by 6 other elderly men who have been left by their children and society. Through a long tricky plot, Lucky singh is able to have the entire bunglow and bring Vidya balan and the 6 elderlys on the road!

In the latter half, it’s a pleasure to watch how Munnabhai gets everything that he wants not by his dadagiri but by his Gandhigiri!!!

The comic chemistry between Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is at its peak and it is a delight to watch these two performers reprise their roles with such ease. Vidya Balan is an actress to watch out for, she is looks absolutely fab in this movie.. especially the song ‘pal pal….’

This is one of the most finely crafted films to come out of Bollywood – be it script, cinematography, editing, music or performances. Technically and production-wise the sequel is a notch higher than the previous film, but the main challenge was for the scriptwriters to match up if not go one better than the previous film, and Abhijat Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani deliver big time. The film is a prime example of a great script with sure-handed direction at its best.

Hats off to Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra for delivering this gem. Here is one must-watch film for one and all.

At end of this movie I am definitely influenced by Gandhigiri, I hope the same happens with you as well! :) Absolute must watch… a step ahead of the prequel…
