We all have laughed with Munnabhai and Circuit in Munnabhai MBBS. Now get ready to laugh some more. And think and do some soul searching too. Lage Raho Munnabhai touches you and compels you to evaluate yourself as a human being. And that is where a film succeeds – it makes a difference to the society.

A script like this could have failed. In today’s world, who wants to accept Gandhian Philosophy as a way of life? But what works here is probably the conviction with which this film has been made.

I would not like to tell you about the story and create some spoilers here so let me straight away shift to performances.

Sanjay Dutt was meant to be Munna Bhai. I am sure Raju Hirani’s face gleams with pride when people refer to Sanjay Dutt as Munna Bhai instead of Sanju Baba. His performance is first rate, almost flawless (unless we decide to do some nitpicking).

Arshad Warsi takes leaps and bounds as an actor from Circuit in Munnabhai MBBS to Lage Raho Munnabhai. Watch him smile, watch him cry and you know that he is so under-rated.

Vidya Balan brings life to the screen. If you thought after seeing Pareenita that she can only fit in the period setup, think again. She looks every inch of the Radio Jockey she is made to be. Her face speaks volumes and each and every expression of hers is an essay in itself.

Dilip Prabhawalkar is amazingly good and Boman Irani is unbeatable. In fact, it was great to know that Diya Mirza can act too! Jimmy Shergil in a small role impresses.

Rajkumar Hirani does a wonderful job as the editor, writer and director of this film. I can hardly wait to see his next film. The guy knows his craft too well.

C.K. Muraleedharan as the cinematographer creates magic in a radio-station setup, roads of Mumbai and beaches of Goa and proves that all that is beautiful need not be London, New York, Switzerland.

Abhijit Joshi’s dialogues are crisp, witty and thoughtful. And I am sure lots of research has also gone into it.

And finally, thanks to Vidhu Vinod Chopra for trusting Rajkumar Hirani with this concept. It really takes lots of courage to make this kind of a film.
