Ladakh would be my all time favorite holiday destination while staying in India.
We went with family and took our 5 year old son. Luckily the high altitude did not affect him. The local people where so helpful and friendly people.
We stayed walking distance from the Shanti Stupa and everyday we made sure we saw the local sights. You must be somewhat fit to be able to enjoy Ladakh as there would be a lot of walking included.
