Laal Singh Chaddha runs out of steam..

An aamir khan film is an event .The veteran has mastered the art of film making over the years so much that you expect moon whenever his film releases .His latest outing Laal Singh Chaddha is unfortunately not a patch on his previous works. It works in parts only. The film runs out of the steam in the second half and the excessive length tests your patience .What could have been a classic ends up being an average fare in the final tally.

Laal Singh Chaddha being a remake of Hollywood Hit Forrest Gump follows the similar story pattern of that film .The original film chronicled important events in American History while it has been changed to Indian setting here. The film takes off in 1983 when our leading man Laal Singh(Aamir Khan) is about to join school .This is exactly the same time India is about to emerge victorious in the world cup match .Over the course of next three hours the film charters a path that has been rarely traversed in Indian screen before .

The biggest problem with Laal Singh Chaddha is you never connect with the story in the first place. The episodic style of storytelling mars the impact considerably. The school portions are absolutely cliched where a man with physical disability is being ridiculed for his misfortune. The love story between young Laal and Rupa(Kareena Kapoor) is cute but again you heart does not pine for lovers which is a major flaw from the writing point of view.In Fact Laal Singh(Aamir Khan) chanting Rupa Rupa over the course of film gets on your nerves after a point. The love story feels unconvincing later because both Aamir and Kareena look absolutely haggard and old for the romantic part.

Laal Sing Chaddha still remains watchable in the first half but second half feels stretched .The film goes on and on for what feels like a lifetime. The film drives the same point again and again that you feel restless after a point .The lack of meat in the screenplay is a major deterrent in the second half. The editing should have been far More crisper .With running time of close to 3 hrs, you do feel exhausted and run out of patience .

Aamir Khans performance is the biggest stumbling block here.He seems to be reprising his roles from PK and Dhoom 3 . .His mannerisms seem straight out of those movies. The actor definitely gets on your nerves after a point. In contrast, the child actor playing him is far better.

Kareena Kapoors role seems ill defined .You do not sympathize with her at any points in the narrative. She seems ill at ease playing a role of someone who is her 20s when she is actually in 40s.The age has started to show her face. Also the chemistry between Aamir and Kareena is almost non existent which is definitely a bad news for a film that is supposed to be a love story.

All in all Laal Singh Chaddha is a disappointment. The film simply does not connect in the final tally.
