After Border and Refugee, I was not too keen on seeing any war films. But after reading the review of LOC, decided to check it out. And I am not at all disappointed. It is certainly worth a watch. The subject of the film was a very worthy one. In fact I almost felt that the director did not do justice to the subject by dealing with it deeply enough.

LOC deals with the intrusion of Pakistani Jehadis into Indian held Kashmir. They occupy the top mountain points and thus have a great strategic advantage. The Indian Army in order to fight them and reclaim Indian land will have to lose a huge number of soldiers due to this strategic disadvantage. Yet all the Amry Men vailantly give up their lives for the country without even a thought about their families or lives.

A very touching subject. The director has done a very good job in dealing with the emotional part of the subject and also conveying the magnitude of the sacrifice these soldiers and officers had to make. Clearly a touching film in that regard. Also the details like which battalions were involved etc were shown. The peculiar characteristics of each regiment was also well potrayed. For example the Gurkhas draw inspiration from MahaKali while the Rajputana rifles draw inspiration from Shri Ram. Also the religious issues were handled very well without generating any controversy.

But one thing I missed about the film was the lack of authenticity with the battle scenes. The battle scenes were a big let down. One almost feels like a big issue is made out of a routinue affair. The terrible climatic conditions, total isolation from humanity, very rough terrian etc. were not all shown. I get more excited when I play Video Games than when seeing the battle scenes. I thought that was a huge huge huge disapointment. This film was a good chance to let all Indian relive the tension, courage, tenacity, bravery of our soldiers. But it was very poorly captured. Also logistics and planning was superficially shown, which I thought they would put more effort considering this was a war film.

Other than that minor flaw it was a very good film. If the director's objective was to remind of the courage and sacrifice of the brave Armymen, then he did succeed in making me feel it, but failed to show the full extent of their greatness.
