Hiya to the select few who will be bothered to read a review on a phone brand that does not sell well in India.
Well,trust me,the phone is good enough for me to bother to write a review on it. Enough TP,Lets get down to it.
I have been using Nokia since 1998 [that was when daddy dearest used the cell phone ;-) ] and I used nokia 6110 it for 3 good years.That my sis-in-law gifted me a 3310(Legend that refuses to die even after production being stopped long back) and I was hooked to a Nokia Again.I also had a short term affair with a Sony Error-in-it-son Z 200 but gave up on it real fast. I was using a 1108 till 2 weeks back but reception problems(my friends could not hear me even if I could hear them holler) forced to look for a new phone.
A biker is perenially short of cash and yours truly being a biker proved the time tested adage right.I had 5000 bucks(including resale of 1108) and I wanted to upgrade from a b/w Monochrome display to a ''better'' phone (in 5 grands,my friend called me cha,to wanna buy a better phone)I looked at samsung flap phones and nokia cheapsters but was not satisfied as I wanted more BANG for my buck.
Fortunately,my eyes went to the LG Advert hanging on the wall (digitalworld,Pune)
and I asked the shopkeeper to show me the phone.He straigt away said that the phone will be at MRP and not negotiable at all.I saw the phone,and fell for it hook line and sinker.Only catch was that I was short by Rs.990/- wonly and took five minutes to take a decision to buy the phone.(Praveen,you miser,you spent 1 grand extra than you intended to>>>>is what my friends said)MRP 5990/-
I bought it coz the deal was that I got a USB AND A HEADPHONE WITH MIC free.
(allegedley for a 1000 bux).I do not repent my decision even now.
The phone has an inbuilt memory of 60 mb(non-expandable) alongwith 4 mb for contacts and messages.It has an efficient mp3 player with the option of repeat and shuffle and 5 level volume.Both the speaker as well as the headphone have a good sound clarity.
It can store about 12-15 songs at 128 kbps but if you lower the bitrate to 96 kbps then you can include about 5-6 songs more.Its a treat for a budget restricted audiophile.(Software-'Media monkey'or 'mp3 gpld'>to lower the bitrate of songs)
One has to use the USB cable to communicate with PC as it does not have bluetooth. (better not expect it in this cheap a phone) It also has 3 games but they are no great shakes and has a pathetic wannabe 'as legendary as Snake' so it SURELY NOT for a game freak.
You can store 300 contacts alongwith multiple msgs(dunno the exact number as my inbox still has space even after containig 97 msgs apart from 30 on the sim)It also has the regulars,calci,currency convertor and alarms and stuff.
The biggest problem in this phone is that you cannot forward a msg to many people at the same time.You will need to create groups to forward a msg to multiple recepeints and thats a big headache.Also the T9 is pathetic,you cannot add any words to it (valentine is not a word included in the T9).
The major irritants in this phone are:
messaging discrepancies,PatheticT-9,Flimsy keypad and an ultra clean display(gets dirty with a single touch-am I sounding finicky),EARPHONES,they are not well designed and can be a major pain in the rEAR if used inside a Helmet.
LG has withdrawn driver support for this phone as it is not manufactured any more and if you need modem drivers for this phone then mail me at praveen_bhade@rediffmail.com
Major goodies-
60 mb DOOOOD,your favourite songs can come in here,beautiful 262k display with very good clarity and awesome wallpapers.You can select songs as mp3 ringtones and also record your voice for a ringtone.It has speed dial as well and also a Period calculater(have not been able to work it out yet as to how it works and what it calculates)Also has a BMI(Body Mass Index) calculater that shows how fat you are.
I lost 3 kgs since I bough this phone and checked my BMI.Swami Ramdev Baba ki jai! ! ! !
It also has WAP and a button with which you can directly access Muzic.
If you on budget and want a good phone,go buy it,its definitely woth a dekko.
