Well, I went here on a lazy Sunday afternoon for lunch along with a friend of mine. After reading so many reviews from various sources I was tempted to try this place all the way from Dadar.
Location: This tiny little restaurant is easily an eye beater. It is tucked between a garage & a narrow lane & is located slightly off link road. They have valet parking, but I seriously wondered how, since the place is relatively very small, but they managed it.
Ambience: When I entered d restaurant, I just saw a couple of tables & was surprised whether this is d real rest abt which ppl hd been goin ga ga. But then I was shown the way to first floor. Thank god I had prior reservation. We were given a shikara. Fantastic & soothing ambience which really takes u to the original destination(a feel of it). They have made the most of the place. Wall-paintings, crockery’s & many other colorful decorations which really lightens up your mood.(Rating 5/5)
Food: We were actually confused what to order & what to leave out, since there were many choices for the vegetarians(I was glad abt this as I tght they might ve limited option for veg fare). So, we thought it would be better to go with the thali system, where u cn get to taste more varieties. We ordered a lassi each before the meal….dat ws d biggest mistake…. D lassi ws like a punjab ka lassi. in such a huge glass & so tasty…. Bt d mistake was, it filled up our stomach! Now coming onto the food… obvsly d best part, yuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm, guys, believe me, I had nvr had such yummmmy food with such a different taste & that too dishes which we otherwise have on a regular basis in our day-2-day life. In our thali, we had some tikki as starter which ws so so tender, soft & amazing hot! In our thali, we were served dum aloo, paneer masala, daal, rajma, raita, rotis, rice, etc. I can bet that u wont b able to make out d dum aloo…. D aloo was like baked. so hard dat it perfectly goes in with the gravy & each gravy for each of the vegetables had a different taste with different masalas. The paneer was on the harder side though bt d gravy again was fantastic. Rajma was just out of this world. Amazing… Rotis were served hot & as & when we asked, not going by the standard rule of placing a bread-basket at the beginning, which I really liked. The rice was pretty decent, since it was plain steamed rice, nthng mch 2 comment on. We were given phirni as dessert…. It ws more cold or rather I felt it to b more colder than ice creams & served in an earthen bowl, which really gave it a gr8 taste. Post the phirni, we were given kawa. Basically, kawa contained dal chini powder, tea, sugar & water & it was served very hot. Simply amazing after such a heavy meal.(Rating 5/5)
Service: They are a perfect host kind of ppl. Attentive & courteous staff, who cater to every need of yours with utmost respectful manner. When we finished our meal & were seated there waiting for the bill to arrive, there was another family who had come in & requested the waiters to get us cleared since our food was over. But none of the waiters or managers came to us with any looks of “sir, ppl r waiting…”. They were really very very nice & made us feel at great ease. They respect ppl & no wonder ve such huge fan following in Mumbai. Wt amused me more was, they made us wash our hands while we were seated…. quite a good experience.(Rating 5/5)
Price: This is the deciding factor. They aren’t too costly, but neither are they cheap… for the thalis we paid Rs.300 each & including the three lassi’s & taxes; our bill ran upto a little over Rs.800. I would say a definite VFM considering the ambience, quality of food & service.(Rating 5/5)
I would definitely visit them again… I would urge fellow foodies to try out this place… a lvly place 2 spend quality time wid frnds, family members, relatives, etc.
