''Kolangal''-Variety of characters. Review on Kolangal

?Kolangal? which means ?Rangoli? ? Penne Ezhundhu Pudu Kolam Ezhudhu??. This is how the title song of this serial appearing in the most popular Sun TV begins screening the Gollywood actress Deveyaani. I think this serial would have crossed more than 8-9 months now and as per the statistics, this is one of the most favourite tele-serials of the cable TV viewers and has the maximum support of its spectators.

A very brief revu by a MS member makes me write this review to provide detailed information on the Tele-serial.

On seeing the courageous Abi (Alias) Abinaya (name of Devayaani?s character in the serial) in the title song, initially the viewers expected that she would be a woman who would face all hurdles & the barriers in an intellectual and bold way, but to everyone?s disappointment, Abi has till now been only crying in almost all the scenes exposed so far. The repeated stumbling blocks in her life sometimes makes all of us extremely frustrated.

As per the story, Abi?s family is very poor and she has two (younger) sisters and one (younger) brother. Her father had ran away leaving his wife at the younger age of these children and Abi?s uncle lives with them all. Abi gets married to Bhaskar who?s always only after money.

Since Abi?s family was running only her sole income, she wishes to give away her entire salary to her mother after their marriage, for which, though her would-be-husband (Bhaskar) initially agrees, but after marriage, Abi comes to know that he was only trying to cheat her and he doesn?t allow her in this regard in future.

Also, Abi?s mother-in-law is a typical cruel & malicious woman who dominates Abi and always finds fault in whatever she does and treats her in the worst offensive way. Abi has two sister-in-law(s), of which, one is very innocent and the other supports and go by whatever Abi?s mother-in-law says.

Only for the initial 3 months of marriage, Abi and Bhaskar live together and there comes lot of fight & quarrels between them and Bhaskar abuses her in the most malevolent way. When in one stage she could no more tolerate his nuisance, she goes back to her mother but without breaking any commitment / relationship with her husband.

Since Abi had not come back, gradually Bhaskar develops an affair with his colleague who is very rich and a divorcee. Subsequently, they all force Abi for a divorce and step by step gives her maximum possible tortures to Abi and her family in order to obtain the desired divorce.

Some of the scenes are really meant for tearing our hearts apart ? but since the South Indian women are mostly used to these stuff earlier through many of their favourite (round the clock crying) tele-serials, their hearts had become a make of steel / iron, which could never get rust by these tears, in spite of ?Kolangal? having recurring heartbreaking & distressing scenes.

But the appreciable factor in ?Kolangal? is the wonderful characterization and choosing the perfect actors / actresses for the varied characters. Especially, 'ex'-movie actress Nalini plays the role of Abi?s mother-in-law, who has perfectly done her part. She appears to be extremely arrogant & cruel, sometimes she makes all the viewers to curse her. Bhaskar?s character almost resembles the character of Radhika?s husband in the serial ?Annamalai?, and so not very catchy. He too irritates us too much.

Abi?s sisters Anandhi and Aarthi have done their roles very well ? one is very bold and the other one is very witty. Abi?s mother is again a continuously crying character. Now finally, they obtain the required divorce from Abi and Abi starts breathing a fresh air and plans to come up in her life to reveal the real her to all the people so far hurt her the most. She also wants to prove herself to her official boss Mr. Adhithya, who had ill-treated her in her office and sacked her & some of her colleagues.

For the first time in her appearance in this serial, Abi had laughed in yesterday?s episode and let us see whether Abinaya is achieving anything in her life?? and identifies her father who had run away long ago, who?s also the father of her 'ex'-official boss Mr. Adithya??.!!!!!!!! But to get to know this, I am sure the serial Director would make us wait for another one year.

We certainly do expect better performance from Abinaya (popular actress Devayani), otherwise ?Kolangal? would sure be pushed backwards from the top listing?!!!!!!!
