NAUGHTY could get it all KNOTTY!. Review on Knots Movie

One fine day you come home earlier than expected and find our wife in arms of another… hold your breath… woman!

One fine day you realize that your girlfriend of 5 years FINALLY realized that you have been cheating on her as often as you could and gives you black eye to boot.

One fine day you realize that every time you think you have found THE ONE, she either sleeps with another guy on your third date or even worse sleeps with your best pal’s wife!

Well you might just say that none of these sound like “fine” days. But it just sounds better, so that’s what I am saying!

These 3 incidents happen to three buddies Dave, Cal and Jake who are at different stages of their life trying to find meaning of love and commitment and its effect on their lives.

Dave is the married guy totally committed to his wife Greta in their 2 years of marriage. They have recently moved into a new house and something is amiss. Their sex isn’t exactly rocking and an uneasy tension seems to take away the comfort level. He is trying hard(no pun intended), but to no avail.

Cal is the quintessential Casanova(I always wanted to use that Q word!;) As luck would have it he is a fashion photographer whose girlfriend of 5 years ahs a job that involves lot of traveling. His logic is that his infidelity keeps their relationship rocking. Every time he has sex with a new woman and she isn’t as good as Emily, he ticks her off and that way he is closer to knowing that Emily indeed IS the one.

Jake is the guy trying to find THE ONE! But his methods are not anywhere close to Cal’s. He goes out with them, makes them laugh, reaches the kiss, but never the final base. His ex Andrea(potential THE ONE of course) had slept with Cal at his party getting him all upset with Cal’s morals and ethics!

And then one fine day a mysterious lady named Lily enters their lives while Dave and Jake are enjoying mutual moping sessions at their regular bar. She makes a beeline for Dave who says he is married, but Jake is available. Lily is a hottie, so self assured, that most men would be scared. They agree to go on a double date – Dave and Greta+ Lily and Jake. Lily’s lawyer stories at dinner table are not be discussed on a family website!;)

This one date leads to a cascading effect. Dave finds Greta in a post coital embrace with Lily in their bedroom shocking him out of his wits.

Jake flabbergasted over his second date Lily sleeping with his best buddies wife is again moping at the bar where Emily turns up. Not knowing who she is, strikes up a conversation and tells her about Cal’s(s)exploits!

Emily hearing about that walks into Cal’s happy photo session with Uta, a Hungarian model and dumps him right then and there.

Soon Greta is demanding divorce from Dave and her lawyer is Lily. All upset he barges into Lily’s office and she seduces HIM TOO! Next the husband and wife are fighting about whom Lily likes better. Can it get weirder than THIS?

Jake meanwhile finds a connection with Emily and they start seeing each other leaving Cal seething.

Cal imagining Jake is only taking revenge actually proposes marriage to Emily with a supporting pre nuptial agreement that says she can take 70% of what he own if caught cheating again.

As fate might have it, Lily walks into Cal’s life too. What happens next is a series of twists and turns that find their logical ending at Cal and Emily’s wedding.

The movie is described as a sex comedy with a twist! By sex comedy it isn’t your teeny bopper variety. It is extremely intelligent, perceptive and wickedly naughty movie that will touch a chord somewhere.

The language is with lot of profanities and of course sex talk, so not reccoed as a family watch, but must watch with your buddies or even better your spouse! Elements of nudity are a part of it too.

The performances are brilliant. There aren’t some major histrionics involved, yet the subtlety of feelings emoted by every character is just awesome. Since it has very few characters they are well developed and complete.

The direction is simplistic with just around four locations where most of the movie happens, not taking away your attention from PEOPLE! It shows how it’s a small world and how are lives are entwined with others leading to things getting tied up in Knots.

The most fun character is of Lily, who as the wickedly delicious and seductive hotshot lawyer, by the end of the movie lends an air of mystery about whether her walking into their lives was INDEED a coincidence!

All in all a movie worth a watch and then watch again if you have taste for the different and wicked!;)

I guess dialogue between Dave and Cal when Dave tells him about Greta sleeping with a woman as when I laughed the hardest.(not an exact reproduction!)

Cal – So Greta is a lesbian…

Dave – Don’t call her that!

Cal – Have you thought of incorporating this in your LIFE?

Dave – Jaakkkee! My LIFE is not a porn movie.

Cal – It sure looks like one right now
