Kissing Jessica Stein is a New York based romantic comedy of a neurotic copy editor ''Jessica Stein'' played by the lovely Jennifer Westfeldt who is looking for the perfect mate Jessica's life seems realistic, funny and most of all - something which we can all relate to - being confused The tale is funny, witty and hooks you up from the very start of the movie till the end of it.

So what's the story? Here we go... Jessica's obsessiveness with finding the right guy causes a lot of misery in her life - with her relationships just not taking off. Her boss, whom she once dated (for a year), tells her that the perspective of everything related to her has to be perfect is the trouble and not the people whom she had a relationship with. This causes some introspection from her side. In an office scene, her co-colleague is reading ''Women Seeking Women'' section of the paper - when she quotes a women who has used a quote from Rainer Maria Rilke - which is Jessica's favorite too.

Deciding to experiment, she meets this woman ''Helen'' played by the sexy Heather Juergensen. Helen is bisexual - a female with a voracious apetite for sex - mostly with men, but also women. She also works for an art gallery and this provides a very interesting combination to her private life. The first meeting of Jessica and Helen is a treat to watch. The mix-up's, the nervousness and the way Helen manages to lure Jessica for a drink and then have a nice evening (but no sex).

This movie a laugh-a-minute comedy that involves gay/lesbian and straight relationship - all mixed up. Sooner, rather than later, you stop caring about who's gay and who's straight - and just see this movie as love relationship b/w people regardless of their sexual orientation. Anyways, Jessica's brother is getting married. Her mother decides to have a get-together, throw a party. By this time, Jessica and Helen have started experimenting. But Jessica's just not sure - what she wants. At the party, Jessica introduces Helen to her mother - who is trying to setup Jessica with another guy. If things weren't hilarious enough - the party ends amidst bad weather.

Jessica's mom decides that everyone should stay at their home for the night - and in all innocence - tells Jessica and Helen to sleep together on the same small bed. I couldn't stop laughing when Jessica's mother asks the two girls if they would be comfortable in the small bed together. The odd face that the girls make is just too good! Well...you guessed it...they finally mate :) The movie chugs along with a good pace - keeping up the steam - the story being kept on a tight leash - not allowed to loosen up.

Soon, Helen realises that Jessica is still not comfortable with their relationship. Things come to a boil when Jessica doesn't invite Helen to her brothers wedding. They break up. Then really comes the turning point when Jessica's mother senses the relationship b/w these two girls and convinces Jessica to get back with Helen.

Next thing you know Jess and Helen have moved to an apartment. But like every relationship - differences come up. The most serious being - hardly any sex relationship. Helen dumps Jess within 3 months of their moving in together. But they still remain very good friends. Meanwhile, Jessica's now former boss (who proposes his love to her on Jess's brothers wedding day, by mistake ofcourse) is now into writing. They meet up again accidentally and hit it off from there. The movie ends on a heart warming note - with Helen finding another partner (the partner's identity will suprise you) and Jessica moving on with her life. But being very good friends - they meet up (regularly) - and gossip over their relationships.

Final Comments: This was one of the best mature comedies I have come across. NO candy floss, no artificialness. Just plain audacity and quirky lifestyles and very funny but heart warming tales of relationships b/w human beings

A MUST WATCH movie - especially during a nice dull evening - to brigten you up and make you feel good about life.
