Historical appeal, epic sequences along with wonderful performances from the star cast is the recipe of the latest war movie in town King Arthur. This one will remind you of Braveheart, Gladiator and Troy and if you fancied those movies then this one would catch your attention as well.

The Plot Clive Owen is Artorius or Arthur, the hero of Roman and British parentage. He sees only chaos and devastation once the Romans pull out of Britain. He wants to return to Rome as a devout Christian but before that he wants to free his knights from Roman servitude so that they may return to their ancestral homeland in Sarmatia.

Before he can do that, he must lead his brave band of pagan knights on one last mission to rescue a Roman family from deep within enemy territory. Arthur, Lancelot, Galahad, Bors, Tristan, Dagonet and Gawain are here forced to confront their old 'Woad' enemy: Merlin and his guerilla army. These people are the soul of Britain and with the Romans gone, the marauding Saxons will roll over them like an avalanche.

Under the guidance of the shaman, Merlin and the beautiful, courageous Guinevere (Keira Knightley), Arthur will struggle to find the strength to forsake his dreams of Rome to 'become a leader in this land,' and to change the face of history.

The Cast

Clive Owen (King Arthur) does a wonderful job as a Roman/Briton knight struggling to find his roots and torn apart between his calls to Rome as a Christian and his duties towards Britain as a native. He essays the role with élan and is at home as the brave Artorius. Some of the scenes and moments in the movie belongs to him and he carries them with ease and poise.

Keira Knightley (Guinevere)oozes oomph as the female lead. She looks very fresh as the brave Queen Guinevere. It seems she took rigorous classes to work on her fighting skills and that reflects in the movie. She comes as much needed relief to the viewer who at times gets too bogged down with blood and gore. She certainly has a great future ahead of her as an actress.

Stephen Dillane (Merlin) has a small role as the Woad warrior and he has done it well. Not much actually to write home about his minuscule role.

Ioan Gruffudd (Lancelot)has brought alive Lancelot on screen and looks the part what with his Irish looks. All in all a decent performance with some intense scenes to his credit which he pulls off with ease.

Ivano Marescotti (Bishop Germanius)has a small role as the Roman governor posted in Britain and he does it OK.

Ken Stott (Marcus Honorius)plays the role of the Roman bishop who had to be rescued by Arthur.

Ray Winstone (Bors) , Hugh Dancy (Galahad) , Ray Stevenson (Dagonet) ,Joel Edgerton (Gawain) , Til Schweiger (Cynric) play the knights in the film, and they all have small roles which they have done pretty decently well.

The Crew

Director: Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, Tears of the Sun)has done a wonderful job with this film. He has been able to depict stunning battle scenes with extensive attention to historical detail that rely very little on computer graphics and instead use intricately realistic props, costumes, and scenery. The scale of the movie is huge and Fuqua has pulled it off in style. He has been able to portray the legend of King Arthur in a very convincing manner and his attention to details are indeed a treat to the discerning.

Screenwriter(s):David Franzoni (Amistad; cowriter of Gladiator) & John Lee Hancock (The Alamo) have come with a true yet believable work with the script of King Arthur.

Cinematographer: Slavomir Idziak (Black Hawk Down, Proof of Life) has made the movie simply stunning with his camera work.He has captured the locales of Ireland and the war scenes with such poise that its a sight to behold. The sets and the wonderful lens work makes the movie a must watch for the sheer magnitude of the same. Hats off to him for such a wonderful work.

Composer: Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down) has composed the music for King Arthur and he has done a great job. His haunting music creates a wonderful ambience to the story of unselfish heroism.

What to watch out for the movie is a cine goers delight with its stunning locales and brilliant camera work. The attention to detail and the breathtaking war sequences along with the amazing sets make it a fitting tribute to the legend of King Arthur. Apart from that don?t miss out the stunningly beautiful Keira Knightley who sets the scenes on fire with her oomph. The budget and the magnitude of this one makes it a must for any avid cinegoer.

The attention to minute details make for very realistic movie experience. Some of the scenes are wonderfully well done with the nitty gritties wonderfully well done something which is generally missing in a movie of this magnitude.

The battle scenes specially the one which is done in a narrow valley with ice capped peaks all around is a sight to behold. total paisa vasool

What not to watch out for the gory scenes may disgust the weak hearted, as sometimes the blood goes overboard, but then thats what one can expect from a war movie.
