Ki and Ka has tried to venture into the unknown; exploring the concept of a working wife and a stay-at-home husband. The movie stresses on the sacrifices a woman has to make to keep her family running and she does not even get paid for that. The problem, however, is the movie takes a lot of time to deliver this simple message.
Kabir Bansal( Arjun Kapoor) is next-in line to helm the multi-crore business of his father( Rajat Kapoor). However, Kabir believes that a housewife's job is nothing short of an artist's and he wants to be like his mother. Kabir meets Kia( Kareena Kapoor Khan) and falls for her. The proble, however, is that Kia is career-driver girl with unusually high ambitions. She, at all costs, wants to top the hierarchy of the professional world.
R. Balki( director) has tried to explore the issue of gender-inequality in this movie, but fails to break the shackles. At many points, the movie is filled with stereotypical scenes and not to mention crappy songs. Ki & Ka is literally about the role-reversals, however, the plot is too loose to do justice to that concept.
The performances are not worth appreciating. The cameos by Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan looks far natural than the over-the-top acting by the lead actors. The music of the movie is average, with songs just filling in the gaps.
The direction had a noble intention, but is let down by a poor script and average performances. The concept of role-reversal is not just about a man donning apron and a woman passionately working towards her career goals. It is more than that. Ki and Ka fails to address that.
