So the much hyped 'Kahani hamare mahabharat ki' by Ekta was aired yesterday. It had to begin with a K hence the pre fix. But Thank God for small mercies or it might have ended up as "KKKKKahabharat"..which in fact is what it should be 'kahaanbharat"!!
Like often I realised that the irony of the television scene in India is that all the Wrong people have the clout and position , money and facilities. How else does one rationalize the pathetic display of what ought to have been a mind boggling experience! The faces are the same old hackneyed, beaten to death ..just the accessories have changed. It as if they have just walked out of one of the K soaps changed hurriedly
the vanity van and pronto became haazir on the sets.
The Directors are the same as her serials so all you get now is extreme close ups of a bad actress Anita or natasha or natassha or whatever playing draupadi and showing eyes to he kauravas and Pandavas in between long outbursts of dialogues. Her manner s belligerent and her attitude so over the top that you actually didnt mind her vastra haran.. would Krishna come and save such women? Honestly..it was so out of character..
Each scene carries out endlessly with one close up and swish pans and loud music, from one face to another, then a dialogue and then the close up merry go round begins all over gain..Its irritating as hell.
Its like an unending chewing gum that has long lost its flavour . All this so that the episode ends on this location itself. Save bucks to make bucks while the audience wants to scream" Oh get on with it.. for Mahabharats sake"!! The idea of starting the serial with the vastra haran was so like an item number to number crunch eye balls. They are sensationalising even the Mahabharata!! Draupadi the latest item number!!
Aeons back I had seen the chopra version.. I hated it for its tackiness.. but at least they had rahi masoom reza writing it.So there was the literary angle looked after and also the research. This looked like a hurried harried attempt at creating a magnum opus just for the sake of it!!
Dressing Parvati and Om in Greek oufits doesnt make the epic modern.. What a poor sense of aesthetics. I believe the Ceo of the 9x channel Peter Mukherjees 2nd wife Indrani and ekta have Masterminded it.. now we know what their minds are all about .
I always felt Ekta was a fluke..just at the right place at the right time and devious as hell...otherwise she has only destroyed the future of Indian television.TRps and budgets have been the sole concern.. Quality go to hell!!
I can challenge the naysayers.. this serial is going to flop. There will be a strong attempt to hide the verdict.. but honestly I dont think any body in his/her right senses is going to give this 'pareshan haal' attempt a thumbs up. if they think that indian audiences are going to get fooled only because they shoot in Ladakh or have a jib operating they are wet behind the ears. It is a complete NO No.. Our Gods and goddesses deserve better.. **not a freaky greedy
Producer and Channel that is exploiting even our Grand epic for a few bucks..
