I am still in shock – I saw KANK!

I saw this movie last evening. I am still reeling in shock. My left and right brains are in trauma. My heart feels sad; very sad at what we have made ourselves. Of how deranged the team who served this sickness maybe and how they can get away unscathed. Of how big banner actors like AB and SRK can even take up such objectionably disgusting roles knowing fully well that the gullible masses of India look up to them as their mai-baap and as their idols for emulation.

For those who have not seen the movie, before I commence on my critical rampage, here is a very objective snapshot –

Couple one – Abhishek & Rani.. Abhi as owner of an events management company, rich successful, handsome and fun loving guy who loves his wife Rani, a school teacher and a compulsive cleaner and who despite her daily tantrums and taunts, not just tolerates her but loves her. And then there is AB as Abhi’s playboy dad; yeah AB in that role!!

Couple two – SRK and Preity with son Arjun; SRK – an ex football player who because of an accident now remains just a school football coach. His wife Preity - a hardworking, successful magazine editor, who because of her husband’s incapacitation as well as the despicable & destructive attitude, has to become the “man” of the house and manage the household, and who despite his foul temper and consistent tantrums and taunts, still loves him. And then there is SRK’s mom – Kiron Kher in an utterly useless “Chandigrah” role….no one knows what the joke is all about.

Movie: Dissatisfied Rani and Dissatisfied SRK meet and keep meeting at bus stops and on pavements of NY bytching about their respective spouses; those spouses who have been responsible partners, who have earned the bread for the family while their significant others were fooling around, who gave them a comfortable life, who loved them, who cared for them, who tolerated their utterly disgusting attitudes and tantrums. Yet instead of them being the ones to be dissatisfied and disgusted, instead of them having any affairs despite having all the right circumstances, we have the villains SRK and Rani having the audacity to show constant disgruntlement and who then choose to have an adulterous affair with each other.

This movie ought to be sued. For an impossible length, an intolerable insult to intelligence, insinuations that despite being completely in the wrong, you can throw up your hands, shirk off all responsible behavior and have affairs with other married folk. It ought to be sued for the implications it makes that behind the more noble & responsible professions like that of a school teacher or a school football coach are destructive and devious minds who are capable of indulging in things that those with all the opportunities and circumstances in the world do not get into, only because they respect commitments and relationships. It ought to be sued because of the silly representation it makes of Americans, NRIs and Indian life in the US. ………the movie suggests that in the US, people call their dads as dudes, and implies that use of chill, sleeping with him and her etc, use of words like dude, babe and chill and encouraging old widowers to roam around with call girls…is the way Indians live life in the west. It ought to be sued for the gross misrepresentation of facts or logic…of the mental trauma it created and for being the cause of anger against all of the team members of the movie.

And I have a few questions for Mr Bachchan.

Mr Bachchan, till today I have been in awe of you but lately you have started destroying your own image. In Bunty or Babli you gyrated with your son at the tunes of a cheap street dancer (Aish) and in this KANK movie you crossed all limits by playing the role of an old playboy.

If our actors start playing the roles of villains, what is going to happen next? Does it not hurt your conscience of the message you are sending to society by playing the role of an oldie who solicits girls and has one night stands with them? Don’t you have any obligation towards the society that has elevated you to a status of God? Will you wipe out your strong and powerful image before you die and wish to be remembered as a frivolous old jerk in search of more and more money at any cost? It is time Mr Bachchan, to take stock of life and do something good, to give back what you so abundantly took from society! It is shameful to watch such a great icon play such a despicable role! You have the power to say no. You have the power to dictate sensible and meaningful roles. But you too chose to ride the wave.

As to Rani, well the less said the better. She looks like a cheap servant girl.

As to SRK – please retire. You look awful and you cannot act. I think you never could. But then that is just me.

As to Abhishek – you have potential, but dude, for heaven sake get rid of that ugly beard; one cannot even see your expressions, in case they are ever shown.

As to Preity – wonder what has gone so wrong with her in the movie, despite a strong character role, she looks pretty bad.

Indisputably the first Insanity Award goes to KANK!!
