Extramaritals has been a subject of major interest for Bollywood directors for quite a few years

and recently Karan Johar came up with his own views on this highly complex web of relationships

which anyone might accidently get into or is naturally inclined to entangle oneself in a never ending

feeling of guilt, shamefulness, deceit and unhappiness.

The movie revolves around four central characters played by Rani Mukherji, Shahrukh Khan,

Preity Zinta and Abhishek Bachchan and the comic touch lent by the presence of the superhero

of the yesteryears, the Big B Amitabh Bachchan.

The role of the two married couples is enacted by Rani Mukherji and Abhishek Bachchan along with Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta. The marital discord between the pairs ultimately leads them

on divergent paths. The overambitious Preity Zinta plays the typical newage dominant wife who is busy reaching the ladder of success on the professional front and is not too involved in the domestic affairs, the result of which is that her husband falls for another woman.

The chemistry between Rani Mukherji and Shahrukh Khan lacked the intensity of the desired level due to which the drama looked superficial. The role of doting husband played by Abhishek Bachchan seems to be pleasant to watch but Rani Mukherji's pathos has no bounds. The songs are choreographed beautifully especially the title track "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna", "Mitwa" in which the King of Bollywood is presented as a rock star and the club song picturised on Aby Baby and the pretty Preity Zinta.

The words of wisdom provided by Big B in the movie lead to the separation of his dearest son and his lovely wife. The bitter arguments between the couples are succeeded by their split which drives

the lead pair together. The institution of marriage is presented in a very rational manner that if

one is unable to seek happiness or marital bliss in one's life then one has the choice to step out

of the ill-fated relationship. But if the ultimate solution is to separate then what is the point of having been in the relationship in the first place?.One should be judicious in seeking the most suitable solution.

If one has invested an appreciable amount of time in a relationship then it is prudent enough to give time to the weak links and seek reunion rather than end the bond.Marriages are made in heaven as wise men say; so it is better to be flexible and adjusting in ensuring a life long stable relationship.Being committed to the vows taken at the time of fulfilling the traditions and customs

associated with marriage is the safest way to achieve exhilaration and emotional security in one's life.Deviance perpetrates guilt, deepseated anxieties and worries and is not guaranteed to provide the much needed happiness one is earnestly in search of.
