This is not a place for PUBBY cultured people or who always like to feast on Mcdonalds, Kings burger type food. This is pure Maharashtrian Thali which many people still prefer for their lunch and dinner.
As the name suggests,JANSEVA-for the service of people,this place is still there serving two(may be 3..I am not sure) generations of people.
Started as simple lunch home for College Students,it has come a long way.I remember my father used to eat there at mere Rs.45/-per month,two times a day. Now,it is Rs.60-70/- for one time Lunch or dinner!! Still Ok if you see the financial standards of the people now- a-days.
This Lunch house(Popularly known as JANASEVA Bhojanalaya in Pune) has retained its popularity after hard times of Panshet Dam disaster in 1961 in Pune.
It has simple arrangement of table chairs with very clean and neat look. Once you enter here,there is fragrance of Agarbathi which will freshen up you mind.
Maharashtrian Thali is served to you in Clean Stainless steel Thali(Plate) in very sincere manner.Contents are simple and tasty.(I do not like word ?YUMMY? for lunch somehow which is popularly used now a days to signify the better taste of food)
- Left side of your plate contains
a. Mith(Salt),Limbachi Phod(8th part Lime cut in nicely),Lonache(Pickle),& Shengadana Chutney(Groundnut Chutney), Kakadichi Koshimbir(Salad prepared using Cucumber,Roasted Groundnut powder and Curd)
- Right side of Plate contains:
a. Rassa Bhaji(Vegetables in Gravy)?Not very spicy but very nice Maharashtrian variety?Try this.
b. Kordi Bhaji(Dry cooked Vegetable like Potato,Ladies Finger etc with some tadka and some spice and coconut on it etc.)It si very good.
c. Usal(Very Popular !!,made from green peas or Matki etc)
d. Chapati/Bhakari
e. Thalipeeth(Another Popular variety of Maharashtra) and Papad
f. Dahi wada
g. Optional Sweets like Shreekhand,Puran Poli,Jilebi(On Sunday,the sweet is compulsory?So, I go there even if charges are more?.)
Still Hungry??Take more?IT IS UNLIMITED ?..
You can have glass of buttermilk after this?.Wow..
Eat Some Sounf after this and you will realize how much stuff your stomach can accommodate.. It is more than full.
When you pay your bill,you will decide two things without fail here..
I have eaten so much that now for next two days, I will not have even a glass of water.
Next time,Same time same day..We will visit here again?
And that is success of Janaseva..running all shows of 2-3 generations successfully is a big achievement?.
Try this place when you are in Pune. It is located at Deccan Gymkhana,Near Sambhaji Bridge(Also known as Lakadi Pool).
This place is appreciated by big personalities like Lata Mangeshkar,Hrudaynath Mangeshkar,Bheemsen Joshi,Jitendra Abhisheki,Sunil Gavaskar,Ajit Wadekar.
List is too big but now I am hungry?
