There is nothing any sweeter than a freshly bathed baby. When my children were babies Johnson's Baby Oil was a product that I couldn't do without. Not much has changed over the years, I still keep a bottle of Johnson's Baby Oil in my bathroom cabinet. Only the uses have changed not the product.
New born babies skin is usually very dry. I mean think about it, if you had just spent 9 months under water, it's clearly understandable why your skin would be dry, flaky, itchy and peeling. A few drops of baby oil in your babies bath water will help moisturize fragile skin and prevent further drying. I haven't bathed a baby in 10 years, but I remember enough to advise to take precautions for safety by placing a folded towel or baby bath sponge in the bottom of the bathing container to prevent slipping. The added oil in the water will make the baby even more slippery so do be careful. After bath, while baby's skin is still damp smooth in a few drops of oil over body, arms and legs which will lock in the natural moisture from the bath. Remember a few drops will do, as you don't want an oily baby, just one with soft skin. The ingredients listed are simply mineral oil and fragrance. While it doesn't give a list of what type of fragrance, it is a mild hypo-allergenic fragrance that has been clinically tested and proven to be mild and gentle to delicate skin.
A lot of new babies will develop a condition known as ''cradle cap''. Cradle cap is a condition in which the baby's scalp becomes extremely dry, and flakes off. If not conditioned the baby's scalp can become irritated to the point of blisters or oozing lesions. A daily application of a few drops of Johnson's Baby Oil messaged into hair and scap after bathing will help prevent cradle cap and keep scalp soft and moisturized. However with any condition you are unsure of with your new baby, by all means seek the comforting advice of your pediatrician.
Now that I don't have any babies, the whole family still uses this product often. You can use it in your bath just as you would for a baby by pouring a few drops under your running water. It will make your bath tub slippery, so take that into consideration when exiting the tub. A rubber bath mat is not a bad idea to aid in preventing slips or falls. After bath, pat dry skin and apply a few drops to still damp skin. This locks in moisture for you same as it does for your baby.
Johnson's Baby Oil is the perfect Make up remover. A few drops on a cotton ball will take eye liner or mascara off with just a couple of swipes. Be sure to wash your face with your regular beauty products and follow with a moisturizer for your skin type. I don't advise Johnsons Baby Oil as a facial moisturizer because some skin types will drink in the oil through the pores and can cause blemishes. You know your skin type and I'm sure have your own regimin for cleansing, but Johnson's Baby Oil is a good addition to have in your make up case.
Ever had a ring stuck on your finger? A drop or two of baby oil and a bowl of cold water will usually get it off safely. The cold water will decrease the tissue while the oil will cause the ring to slip off easily.
I have also used Johnson's Baby Oil as a tanning lotion, but you have to be very cautious because it doesn't contain any sunscreen and will acctually increase the intensity of the sun rays to your skin, so unless you have a good base tan I wouldn't advise Baby Oil as a tanning preparation. On the other hand it does make a great after tanning moisturizer.
If your older child ever gets bubble gum stuck on their face or in their hair once again the old trusty bottle of Johnson's Baby Oil to the rescue will remove the gum residue with ease.
See there are so many uses for this product, that I consider it a must have item in any house hold. Prices will vary according to size of the bottle, but will average to be around $2.49 for an 8 ounce bottle. There are several varieties available such as Baby Oil with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E, and Baby Oil with Chamomille and Multi-Vitamin Complex, Johnson & Johnson® sure knew what they were doing when they created this all purpose oil, because it isn't just for babies anymore!
