Tamil Cinema always has had its own huge share of ''one/two movie wonder'' directors..( RV udaya kumar, pavithran,azhagam perumal to name some..)..
I saw anandam with no big opinion or expectations.. it turned out to be a wonderful entertainer ( with subtle sentiments..) and lingusamy became a name in the industry..
His second movie ''run'' was a hit because of the totally contradictory style as compared to his first movie.. people went to ''run'' with the ''anandam'' background of lingusamy in their minds.. and he churned out an extremely stylish action flick. He became a name to reckon with
No wonder, Ji was released with a lot of hype ( though it took more than 2 yrs to shoot the film).. It was with a lot of expectations that I went to the theatre to watch the movie.. The first 15 mins did not disappoint me either..
Then came the flash back and with that the whole movie sank It is a typical college- politics story.. But I wonder what message lingusamy was tyring to convey thru this film.. is he trying to say students should come to politics to clean up the sytem?? or is he conveying that politics is mightier than student power and that students shd stick on to their education?? or is he trying to say that sword and blood is the answer to today's politics??
So.. where does the movie go wrong...
Ajith as vasu , a college going studen is incomprehensible.. he sure mus have flunked college 4-5 times each year to look as he looks in the movie.. he better look after his waist if he is going to continue to act in such roles in future..and the time period it took to shoot the movie sure tells..
Ajit sports a long hair in one scene with stubbles of beard.. and in the next scene, he has closely cropped hair and neatly shaven face.. the third scene.. he goes back to his original style.. Lingu mus have had a tough time keeping grasp of the shots over a period of 2 years it took to shoot the film
Trisha sure is good looking and fits the school going gal.. ( but if that is all u want of the heroine, I sure would have cast a real school going gal).. acting?? watz dat??
The character of vijay kumar is confusing.. it reminds the viewers of the madhavan-raguvaran relationship in run..we know right from the first scene that he is there to be killed..
The biggest disappointment is vidyasagar.. forget memorable songs.. at least hummable ones??nah..he mus have got too tired to wait for the film shooting to get over..
The scenes are too predictable, ajit too monotonous to watch, trisha too cuddly to believe, fight scenes too unbelievable..
Well.. to say something in favour of th emovie.. lingu still has some refreshing scenes like the one where ajit meets trisha after his release from jail.. or where he argues with manivannan justifying his killing mission.. hopefully, lingu would give us a better movie next time.. and for ajith, this movie sure is more watchable than the likes of jana and anjaneya..Lets hope god father gives him a good break..
