yes, thats the best thing about Jaanemann-thats its very real. real in the sense that it has such a realistic plot...nothing seems 'fake' about it. its like....when you try to imitate or disguise someone, or pretend to be someone you are not, we might succeed in the short run, but not in the longer period. the bottomline is that we all have a heart and a soul, and those who aren't close to their spiritual-self fall in the 'fake' category.

Jaanemann impicitly tries to spread this message - you dont come across such movies often. its very different from other movies. its a rare, innovative movie which comes straight from the heart.the greatest irony about this movie is that though it looks fairy-tale type, larger than life, unrealistic cinema having artificial implications it turns out to be real to the core.

it also highlights the smallest and the simplest things....which are also the most beautiful things that make us happy.....like watching your baby smile...its a wonderful feeling!

Jaanemann starts rather slowly, which is excusable assuming it was the script's requirement. then, as the story unfolds one thing after the other, everything becomes clearer and develops a reasonable pace later on.

then, in the second half, unlike most movies the story develops further, picking more pace and becoming more interesting making it as good as the first half, if not better. the end couldn't have been better...believe me!

in parts you might feel its a bit slow, or not 'your type', but if you have taste for such quality cinema and are willing to be a little patient, then you will like it.

THE PLOT

Agastya Rao (akshay kumar) is an astranaut, who is traveling in a spaceship along with a young woman, who asks him to narrate to her his life story. (he takes exactly 3 hours according to the IST in the movie which also happens to be the length of the movie....an example of its realistic element)

he reveals that he was a geek, in love with the most beautiful girl in the college,Pia(preity zinta), who loves and is loved by Suhaan (salman khan), aho is the college dude. they get married and get separated because of salmaan's career('acting') issues and some serious misunderstandings. pia moves to new york where her family lives, but prefers to live separate. she demands rs 50 lakh from suhaan in alimony as a final settlement. but suhaan flop's as an actor and is jobless without much money.

that is when agastya returns (after seven years) - very much handsome with a better personality, in search of pia. suhaan's lawyer, anupam kher, the dwarf, suggests him to use agastya, by making him woo pia and get them married, so that he wont have to pay the alimony.

are you sceptic about the plot? ...even I was a little. but the plot, though it sounds serious, there is some fine humour in the movie, giving it a funny treatment. and, The Main Story begins after that, when suhaan tries to help agastya win pia's heart in new york. Then, how the things progress thereon is worth watching.

however, the movie begins slowly, which is somewhat justified, and it lacks the X-factor or the killer instinct - which a beautiful movie like 'swades' also lacked and may result in some mixed reactions.

Preity zinta looks very stunning, hot and beautiful throughout the movie and has done justice to her role. akshay has delivered a very good performance. even salman, the master of crazy things, has done a very good job, he has dansed well and especially his crying is impressive. shirish kunder has made a very sincere and a beautiful attempt with jaanemann, doing a fine job contributing greatly with direction, editing, writing, background music, etc(if I missed anything). his editing, especially towards the end is amazing! the cinematography and art direction are simply brilliant! farah khan's choreography is excellent. anu malik has made a good 'comeback' with his music in the movie. the song 'udh jaana...bro' - the full version is fantastic. 'humko maloom hai' is nice too, which tells one part of the narration of the story.

So if you want to watch some good quality, unconventional cinema, go watch JAAN-E-MANN
