When was the last time you were in a mood for a simple love story?  Just dreamy romantic fluff? Never? Too high brow for such stuff? Then this movie is definitely not for you. But yes if you are in the mood for a typical Bollywood love story with some intense direction thrown in for good measure, then IIP is what you want to see. The sort of movie that you wanna see with your g/ b friend during  the early days of your romance.

It has the sort of story that appeals to people who are out there on the road, who attract stories  around them.

The story of two commitment – phobic people, a girl called(what else) but Ishkq and a guy Akash who meet in a train and end up spending an exciting night together in lovely Paris promising never to see each other other – but end up breaking that promise, it take one through some pretty familiar territory. I was personally reminded of my first date – well as much excitement- we are in B-school back then, but yes it was a night spent together too and the pre-dawn scene in the movie where you feel the need to confess after a crazy night out, the need to confess your darkest fears will touch anyone who has been through that experience.

At a certain high brow level it has been panned by the critics and that is what you see on every review page on the net, but yours truly begs to differ. Yes maybe the story could have been tighter and maybe barring the Sallu song  (yes, he has an item number too) and the title song the rest of the numbers could be safely dropped too .

But it has its fair share of positives.

It is an unabashed paean to Paree and its way of life,  mostly does not insult your intelligence, has a fairly good bit of cinematography, well written dialogues and some wonderful cast.

Like Isabelle Adjani a double Cannes  Best Actress Award winner and a two time Academy Award nominee. Cast as Ishqk’s mother she is just awesome. She came prepared for the script said the director in an interview some months ago and learnt Hindi( the Adjani in her name is Turkish and not Sindhi) for the part.  She perfectly revels in the character which she plays to perfection. Rehman Mallieck tries hard – a bit too hard at times- but overall succeeds. Priety – aaah how can you not fall in love with this girl everytime you see her? She brings out her best and at times it is hard to believe that this is not a K Jo or one of the big banners that she’s working for but a relatively unknown director.  They vibe very well and PZ just gives us her best in every scene – predictable as some may be- to make you reach out and hug her

Fluffy? Check Light Romantic? Check Chickflick? Maybe

See it with pink glasses if you believe in the improbabilities of love and Bollywood.

I for one am “in Love with Love”  after this movie
