Pulling the Flush Chain

Every now and then you find that someone has defecated on the site. You have no options – simply flush out the load and throw out the dumpsters.

Where is the question of justification?

Don’t we all do that? If the neighbourhood stray dog litters on your porch, will you let the stuff remain there? You will wash it off (with your nose covered, of course) and make sure the canine doesn’t venture into the environs in future.

The question itself is absurd.

If Mouthshut had not cleaned out polluting members and their feces ever since the beginning, the foul stench would have been nauseating and overpowering by now, believe me.

Anyways, some wise brain will bring up the issue of “freedom of expression”?

Hmmm…. That’s like Slumbai’s folk fighting for their right to line up the railway tracks in the wee hours to express themselves!

The product of their efforts is not something which would please any of the five senses, leave alone the intellect!

And in any case, I can bet that 100% of these ids are duplicate manifestations of existing members with comparatively less notorious avatars. So these beings can continue to render us speechless with their outpourings in some other way.

None of these entities would dare tarnish their respectable reputations by attempting a public excrement with their faces uncovered.

Given that, one must say that a line must be drawn, both by the members and by the management.

Members must not be abusive, threatening, rude or obscene. There should be some relevance to the topic under discussion – and if there is a deviation, then sufficient explanation must be offered.

The management, on its part, must ensure that it is seen to be fair. Arbitarily acting as Big Brother will put off the members. One need not go into the case studies of past instances. That would be pointless. But in future, there must be an effort to be laissez faire.

Too much emphasis on political correctness will turn the atmosphere starchy, sterilised and goody-goody – and frankly, way too boring! People love a bit of masala, controversy! People love to be provoked. Allow all of this! Don’t clamp down on the slightest deviation! I don’t come here to read about products – ho hum to all those who do! I come here to interact – to express myself – to respond to other people’s views. And that need not be about some dry product alone.

Lets have arguments, fights, healthy debates, tensions etc. minus the bad blood!

But wash up before you enter!

COUNTER VIEW

The act of banning makes the culprit feel important – and makes him want to return with a vengeance.

Who reads old reviews anyways? Some of the best reviews have been unread by most of the current members. So if you let the offending reviews and the members remain, ignore them, don’t allow them to provoke you, they will get bored, frustrated and disappear.

There is wisdom in patience and reward in tolerance!

What say?
