A boon for frequent travelers, I am a frequent traveler and most of the time I have to arrange a railway ticket for me. Irctc.co.in is official website of Indian Railways for booking and cancellation of all kind of railway tickets online.
Advantages:
You get your railway ticket in your hands without standing and waiting in long queues.
Transparent fare structures, no mediator/agent to goof up the ticket amount.
Exact/Live status of seats availability in all designated trains so that you plan your trip accordingly.
Satisfaction of getting a correct ticket booked by your own hands.
Cancellation of ticket a button away.
Numerous modes available for Online payment, I would say almost every bank is now available at Irctc.co.in .
Due to recent update of Irctc.co.in it is now very fast and quick after every command.
The ticket can be booked through a cell phone with internet.
Disadvantages:
Some of us who are not familiar with computers and online payment may find it difficult.
Getting a Tatkal ticket is still a challenge and only a super human or a high profile agent can get you a Tatkal ticket.
So many advertisements on the website creates nuisance at the time of booking specially while you are booking a ticket on a cell phone. In case, if you accidently clicked on the advertisement link then it would take you to the add link and you would have to start the fresh process again.
Does not allow to book more than one Tatkal tickets between 10AM to 12PM. People who need two Tatkal tickets for connecting train suffers or either attempts unnecessary means to get the second ticket from a different User ID.
Conclusion:
With a little for effort and vigilance from Indian Railways the service can be improved and a real customer would get benefits out of it, to develop it as a platform which is free from touts/agents/cheats.
