13th of August  2007 we were scheduled to travel by Indigo Air's flight 6E 281 - from Delhi to Chennai.


We left home at 3 AM in the morning as it takes only about 45 minutes to reach the airport . Moreover we had bookings to travel to Tirupati for Darshan the same day.


We did the not realise independence day security drill was on in Delhi and every vehicle was being checked at multiple points as a security measure. We got delayed and could reach airport only at 4.30 AM - 15 minutes before the departure time.


To our surprise the Indigo Air staff was at the entrance calling for the passenger for the Delhi- Chennai flight and the moment we got in our tikcet was taken by a Indigo Air staff for check -in . We had only hand baggage .


This was the first time me and my wife were travelling by Indigo Air and were quite excited about the first experience in this airlines.


In a minute we were at the check-in counter asking for about our boarding passes - when we realised that no body at the counter really knew where our tickets were.


The person who had collected the tickets at the gate had passed it on the somebody else and who that person was nobody knew .


We looked around to locate the person who had taken the tickets - we finally got him and aked for our tickets - he had given tickets to another lady and forgotten about it.


After 10 minutes the tickets are returned to us saying that the doors of the craft have been closed and we can not accommodate you.


However at the same time they had accomodated some of the passengers who had entered with us while we were refused.


I have been flying for over 25 years and their have been times when I have got late to reach the airport due to reasons beyond my control . - my experience has been that whatever airlines I have flown with , have tried to help accomodate and more so when they are calling passagners for the flight you can be dead sure that airlines will take you along.


Here it was just reverse - as I had reached late I was almost certain that I will miss the flight . When the airlines staff at the gate collected my tickets I saw a ray of hope that I shall be able to make it - however from that point onwards none of the ground staff knew as to what they are doing .


The person who collects the tickets - passes on to somebody else - who does not know who does it belong to & what is to be done with it  - their was utter confusion at the counter - the staff was talking amongst themselves trying to find out from each other how they have to go about.....


I could get my ticket only on asking -  they were not bothered if one of their passegner wil be missing his flight - they showed the least concern for the passengers -


We learned a lesson and paid for it . My subsequent mails to the customer relations - were responded and they claimed that they maintain strict discipline to ensure that their customers reach in time. ... I appreciate them being strict about timliness but on the same site I find quite a few people who have had similar experiences. They have no idea what is customer service all about.


When they  collected the  ticket at the gate they  gave me a great feeling of comfort -which got lost in no time  --- that was my first experience & the first encounter with the ground staff  - I am sure this would make them loose more customer then what they would get by expensive advertising.


*I am sure I will not fly by Indigo Air ever nor would I recommend anybody to try .
