I had to open an ICICI account as my salary account. Recently I had a NSC payment due to me. As I am outside India on overseas asignment I asked my agent to deposit the cheque into my account with ICICI. The account numbers in ICICI are so long that she interchanged the last digists as 625 instead of 265. When she realised the error she called the bank and asked them to rectify same. But the bank wanted me to visit them personally to correct this mistake. I mailed them and explained to them saying it was not possible to visit but asked them to give me their fax number to sent a fax.
They asked me to call their customer care as such queries have to be routed thru them. . I rang up Chennai but was connected to mumbai and after listening to their music and repeated requests to hold finally got the fax number. I promptly sent them a fax asking them to give me the credit,but 4 days later when I called they said they have not received any fax. The cheque was deposited on 26th June. Today is 11th July. The customer care told me 'dont worry your money is safe in our miscellaneous account. Unfortunately I cannot issue a cheque against their misc account. Today I got a mail from their relationship manager saying they will respond in 48 hours. I dont know what that means.
So my dear friends if anyone is thinking of opening an account with ICICI please think twice.
